Due to your success at finding a site near Congleton, I thought I'd give you another test, can anyone recommend or know of a campsite close to Ossett, preferably staggering distance from the football ground. Thanks in advance. .

There is a very well thought of site, one junction down M1 at Durkar; can't recall the name of it though. It is next to the Pugneys Country/Water Park. Only about 2 or 3 miles from Ossett centre.
Also, there is a site at Nostell Priory, but this is about 5 miles away from where you want to be.
Ossett Town football ground is right in the centre of the town (opposite the bus station). There are no campsites anywhere in the immediate Ossett area that I know of... As Nick Y says, there is one at Nostell Priory but that is a drive away.

Cheers guys and gals, it is Ossett Town we're going to watch. I'll have a look around Durkar,thanks Nick. Might consider one a bus ride away rather than shankseys pony. Failing that a travelodge has been mentioned, the shame of it!
I was born not far away in Horbury, but lived from an early age up to my late teens in Ossett.
Nostel Priory are "funny" about tents. It is a lovely site in a great location, but upon visiting to take a look I was told by the receptionist that "only 2 man tents will be accepted" as they have had "complaints about overcrowding in the past due to large family tents". All this is code for "we don't like tenters, we prefer caravans" I'm afraid to say.
The Durkar site looks like a none starter also as it only accepts vans, but at least they are up front about it.
Worth contacting them anyway as they may accomodate you.
In short campsites around here are like rocking horse poo, good look.
Your nearest campsite will be Holme Valley at Holmfirth. Not really staggering distance though. Elland Hall at Elland is another one but again not staggering distance.

Hopefuly there will be lots of drinking involved, c'mon its Ossett Town. Going to the two brewers pub for a cultural exchange evening, shouldn't take long.
Hubby does air cadets from Dewsbury and says that Highfield House at Flockton is a nice site and is about 7 miles away from the centre of Ossett. They definitely accept tents as they use it for DofE. Slightly sloping field but lovely with nearby pubs in reasonable walking distance in Flockton and Emley.
