Just picked up half a story about some sites having problems with dogs getting ill. Clumber Park and Sandringham in particular. Something about having picked up some ailment in or around the sites. There is nothing on the CC web site yet. Has anyone got any more detail?
Phil

hi,This happened last year at sherwood forest wood sites-at the same time-many dogs died then .
i live near the areas
Different stories as to cause of deaths-i have read that no investigation is to take place this year!
Last year it happened at thieves wood, sherwood forest pines, blidworth woods and other sherwood forest wood sites, first time i have heard from this chat site that it has happened outside notts areas
I think there is more to it -?dog haters/sabotage from people who work for sherwood forest/wrong insectisides used-?? something is being covered up
We had something similar around here in South Cheshire about a year ago. It didn't kill any dogs as far as I know, but they were very poorly with the runs.
Its very hard to pick up dog poo when it's runny, so we decided that we would all keep our dogs in if they got it. It was blamed on someone whose dog had the runs and left their mess around for other dogs to walk in, then other dogs picked up the infection.
My neigbour's reaction seemed to bear this out. She took her dogs to a different place in the car to walk them and her dogs didn't catch anything.

The Caravan Club have just released a notice to their members as follows:
The Caravan Club has become aware that there have been several incidents of dogs falling ill with an enteritis-like sickness whilst visiting the Sandringham Estate and Sherwood Forest. It is understood that a similar occurrence took place last year and was thought to have been due to a parvo virus-style infection.
The infection is not specific or related to The Caravan Club sites in these areas, but members should be aware and take precautions when visiting the areas around Sandringham Estate Caravan Club Site and Clumber Park Caravan Club Site. The Sandringham Estate has asked the Animal Health Trust to investigate these incidents and to try to identify the cause.

I returned from a weekend at Teversal having taken my German Shepherd for a walk on Silverhill country park on Friday. On Saturday she was quiet and on Sunday she developed diarrhoea, this got progressively worse overnight and on Monday morning she vomited, only once but very violently. By mid morning the diarrhoea was bloody and she was very unwell. By evening the diarrheoa seemed to have subsided and she ate her tea ok. Today she has been seemingly normal BUT about 8.30pm she leapt up from being asleep and she was staggering about into doors and furniture looking as though she had a stroke. After about 5 minutes holding her lying down she has recovered but was a bit hyperactive for a few more minutes. Now she is fast asleep breathing quietly. Watch this space it may be the vet tommorow now I have read all these posts of other dogs with problems.

Just wondered, but has anyone on here been to all of these sites with their dog which may be a carrier without knowing? Seems odd to be caravan sites

Possiblities?: Dogs drinking from water with "blue-green algea" Tick bites.
sound like blue green algea poisionning............... warm wet conditions are ideal for the algea to form but are extremely toxic to dogs ....http://www.ehow.com/facts_5138542_blue-green-algae-toxicity-dogs.html

I can't speak for others but my dog definitely didn't drink from any water while out and she is frontlined against ticks so that rules out blue-green algae and tick bites. Good news is she now seems back to normal so hopefully she is in the clear now. But she had me worried for a few days.
I haven't been to any other sites lately either.
Alls well for me, sorry to others who have not been so lucky.

Blue green algae posionning it isn't necessary for the dog to have drunk any water a simple clean of paws that have been subject to stagnant water, even a puddle, could produce a dog with unwell symptoms. I believe that local vets could test for blue green algae poisionning........
There were warnings around the country about blue green algae indeed a whippet lost it's life not so long ago from drinking from a bowl that has stagnant water with blue green algae in it in the owners back garden, another was extremely unwell from simply washing his paws after a walk where he had wondered thro a apprx 1" puddle. Symptoms can be as extreme as loss of life or as sickness and/or the runs!.
