As someone has said, we all have a choice of whether or not to pay the charge.  When you compare it with the additional charges for a dog if you are staying in a static van it is nothing.  The cost of putting the dog into kennels per night is far higher. 

It's easy to complain about site owners but they are running a business and as long as they provide a good, clean, well-run site without taking the mickey on charges, that's fair enough.  After all, there's a fair bit of the year when they're probably making very little in income but they still have to maintain the site, even if its not open.

The rip-off I objected to is when we were charged a full second charge for my grandson's pop-up tent he sleeps in which was on the same pitch as the main tent.  To me that was really taking the ...............................

We were told by a site owner in Cornwall who charges £4.50 a night and gives no provision for dogs that he charges so much so most people will find it cheaper to leave them at home in kennels.

We have moved to another site that charges £1.50 a night with use of a huge field and fantastic coastal walks nearby.

Perhaps campsites that make a high charge are basically saying they don't really want dogs on their site? Either that or they know that pet owners will pay what ever.

We generally use CC sites so don't pay for our 2 JRs but most sites in France do seem to charge for dogs and don't seem to provide any facilities for them so i suppose when we start taking our dogs with us to France next year then it looks like we'll have to pay for them on sites, along with Eurotunnel!

I agree with you here David, I think they are actively trying to dissuade dogs (dog owners with dogs) from their sites.  If posters start looking it will become obvious that it is mainly the "family" sites with lots of facilities that will charge the most.  Not because the dog will use the facilities but because the site owners just don't want them there but may appear to be "dog-ist" if they just say no dogs!

There's plenty of sites out there so if one charges too much for our dogs then i will look for one that is cheaper :)

Our favourite site charges £1 per night per dog which is quite expensive for what they actually receive but as we love the site we pay it :)  If it was any more i would probably not bother going or wouldn't go for as long

We have 2 dogs and I don't mind paying a small charge providing there are some facilities provided - i.e. a field or somewhere to exercise them and dog bins.

Dogs are as much a part of the family as children, perhaps even more so for those that don't have children!

We do avoid sites that charge more than £3 a dog a night and tend to look for sites where they're either free of charge or will consider paying up to £2 per dog per night.

And of course some sites have dog and no dog fields - i.e. Sandy Balls (New Forest) and Northam Farm (Brean) are 2 of the sites we've been to that operate this system - hopefully trying to strike a balance and keep both dog owners and other campers happy.

What always amuses me is that despite charging for the dog many such sites also have signs up on all the buildings saying "No dogs".  Surely if you are paying for pooch he should be allowed a shower or use of the washup area
