Hi i've looked at the reviews, i've looked at the campsite websites, and i cannot decide. Looking at going on the south devon coast, with an Outwell Monty 6, 3 adults 1, 8 yrs old boy, so playground would be good, going for a week, so very good showers etc, but don't want anything with entertainment. Any recommedations

Are you a member of Camping and Caravan Club? Even if not you can still stay on the sites, its just more expensive. We stayed at the Slapton sands site and really enjoyed it. There is a limit of 8 caravans on the site (local by-laws I suspect - members only) although Motorhomes are allowed. As a resultt you do get a lot of tents which is a pleasant change for tenters.
Beach and village easily walkable from the site and a good bus service in both directions to Dartmouth one way and Kingsbridge the other. Being C&CC they are required to keep to a standard re shower blocks and spaces between pitches.
Long stretch of beach and Slapton Ley nature reserve just down the road. nice walk along the beach to Torcross which has some good pubs and eating places. Also starts a coastal path walk. Couple of nice pubs in Slapton village serving good food and the chip van comes to site once a week (not to be missed if you are there as everything is cooked fresh) and is very popular.
Not sure about a playground but check out the website.
Been there a couple of times and would agree with everything jandjstott has said, except the bit about it being more expensive!
It is more expensive if you pay the non-members pitch fee for a week (or more), but the extra you'd pay would be approximately equal to the cost of a year's membership - giving you another 51 weeks of access to Certificated Sites, Temporary Holiday Sites and all the other advantages of membership.
The Wardens will be happy to explain and sign you up on arrival.
And yes, there is a play area (swing symbol on site details).
Does it need to be very close to the coast? If not, then try Cofton Country Holiday Park.
It has an outdoor pool, a pub on site, etc...
Close to Dawlish Warren famous for its sandy beaches.
I stayed there off season once with everything closed except the toilets and shower block, and it was still lovely, so it must be really nice in the warmer months!
