Hi All,

Just booked a week stay at River Valley by St Austell, a nice week away in July... First time Ive been camping since a kid and even now starting to get excitied..lol, Only bit im not looking forward to is taking the dog who has more energy than she knows what to do with and a 2yr old who is into everything... think the "Calms" will be on drip for that week..

Anyway thanks for taking the time to read, I'll get back to counting down the days..

Welcome to the site, and I hope you have a really great holiday.

Dont forget to make a list off all you think you'll need and tick it of as you pack.  I then make a note of anything I dont use and see if I can leave it off next time, but that never happens ;-)  I Always take everything!!

I used to live in St Austell many years ago and unless it's changed then you will have a wonderful holiday. So much to do or if you if you prefer a great place to relax. Some lovely beaches and little coves etc. Don't worry about the dog. I'm sure it will make friends on the site and be racing around like a lunatic. Have a great holiday and post some pics here when you return.

One of our favourites.  We stayed there years ago in a static and have been there touring in our own caravan several times.

The pool is lovely, as are the showers.  It's a nice quiet family site.

I can highly recommend a pub about a 5 minute drive from the site called the Polgooth Inn.  As you come out of River Valley site turn left and then make a right in about 50 yards up a country lane (the pub name is marked up on a sign).  Get there early if you don't book a table as it's popular, lovely food and big portions!

Forgot to add - site is fab for dogs (that's why we choose it)

Gate at the back of the park leads to the walk all the way to the beach (2.5 miles of off road walks), the path follows the river or you can detour up into the woods - so doggy heaven.

I'd second the recommendation for the Polgooth Inn. It was taken over by new owners late last year, and they're really friendly and welcoming (to kids and dogs, too).

The post office just up the raod has an incredible variety of food and drink for such a small shop. Very handy.

Gorran Haven, just past Mevagissey, is my fave beach in the area. Dogs allowed on leads. Popular but not too crowded, parking not dear (for Cornwall) and has a handful of shops and takeaways. Gorgeous.

We'd agree with Tony too about Gorran Haven.   There's a little cafe almost right on the beach (at the end of the slipway) who do mugs of tea and snacks.

Caerhays Beach (known as Porthluney) is also near Gorran.  That is one of my favourite beaches in Cornwall.

We had a few nights at River Valley last June.  Weather was fab and site was excellent.  Great dog walking.  We walked the Pentewan Trail, straight from the site,  to Pentewan (dog free beach I'm afraid) and then caught the bus to Mevagissey from there.  Try the Ship Inn in Mevagissey - doggie friendly and great Sunday roasts!

There are some photos of the site and surrounding area on our blog.

Go to:- www.kernowcamper2.blogspot.com

Piccy are in the June 2010 section!

Have a fab time!

Oh I have booked for a week in May and can't wait either!

Hubby and me, 3 kids (4,2 and 5 months) and a crazy cocker spaniel.
