I seem to spend half my life surfing around this site looking for the best caravan parks, so I thought I would just ask you, the esteemed members, for your views! We are a family of 4 - two kids aged 5 and 6 as well as an energetic weimaraner dog. We love good scenery, don't like being beside busy roads and ideally (I know, this is asking a lot) look for good sheep-free dog walking and a play park where the kids can make new wee pals. We have been caravanning for a number of years but love the prospect of a new site and new areas to explore. Please help by telling me about your favourites!

You don't say what part of Scotland you are interested in but check out Brighouse Bay near Kircudbright. This is the exception to my rule as I usually don't like bigger sites but we go here often - especially out of season. Lovely family site, small indoor pool and bar with regular low-key entertainment (peak season), pond for fishing (more for children I would say), play park, smashing woodland area alongside (great for dogs) and a lovely wee beach with a smashing coastal walk. About 5 miles to the nearest town (Kircudbright). Quite a lot to do within a short drive. I would post a link but dont know how to.
"Energetic Weimaraner" snap. Ours loved it HERE, great walks along the beach and surrounding area. No playpark for the kids, but you are right at the beach and the kids just seem to spend all day on it only nipping back for provisions.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
A couple to look at are Drumroamin Farm, Kirkinner, Newton Stewart, we have been here several times, and really enjoy the peace, there`s loads to do round and about.
Sands of Luce, near Stranraer, haven`t been, but drove past last summer, had a look on their website, it looks great, and right next to the beach.

It has statics for rent too so we go with my mum and dad who hire a static whilst we stay in the tt.
Its got a lovely play area, huge grassed area to play ball games, a shop for essentials with a small games room. On one side there is a beautiful river that has a small sandy area for the kids to play and throw rocks into the river. The dogs can swim in it and the kids are fascinated by it :) You can walk the dogs for miles along it or there is a forest the top of the campsite which is a great walk. Scenery is of course fantastic and its quite central for daytrips out. Though the site is so perfect that leaving is quite hard to go out on daytrips cos the kids are having such a wonderful time and we are relaxing watching them at play that we are all loath to go to all the bother of going out sightseeing lol.
There are pubs in the village which are only a few minutes walk with shops and another recreation ground. We have some wonderful times there :)
Thanks everyone, these are definitely worth a look; we have wondered about some of them, Brighouse Bay and Blair Castle, but also wondered if they would be too big to let us watch the kids play. So it's good to hear that you like them! We had a seasonal at Kippford last year- love it there especially as all the pubs in the area are dog friendly and Cream o' Galloway Farm Park is just fab. but ultimately the experience of seasonal caravanning made us realise we are tourers at heart! Going to Glendaruel in Argyll in April (avoid the midges!)Sands at Gairloch in May, Dalraddy near Aviemore in June and maybe Arisaig in July! But there are a lot of weekends in between and we are really excited about doing some exploring to places we don't know. Happy caravanning!
