I live in N. Ireland, and my only visits to England Wales have been on business to London and a couple of times to York for the races.
Anyway we are heading on our first family holiday with the tent on the ferry and we are looking for some suggestions on where to go. I havent booked the ferry yet as I am waiting to decide where to go first so we are open to suggestions.
We will be heading on the 9th July for a week. will probably head south to get a bit of weather... hopefully. We are into a bit of cycling, site seeing water activities, eating out, BBQs etc. 2 adults and 2 kids 13 and 11.
I dont know England/Wales that well so need some suggestions please
Also should note, I have just bought the Hartford XL tent so need somewhere with large pitches and EHU.
Thanks for any suggestions.

North Wales has lovely scenery and you could incorporate this within in journey if you travel to Holyhead.
As you are only coming for a week, I think it would be an awful lot of travelling if you were to head for Devon/Cornwall but that part of the country is a favourite for a huge number of campers.
It will take you the best part of a day to drive far enough South to benefit from better weather and even then there are no guarantees. May be better staying North if you're only over for a week?
The Lake District should offer everything you need and is easy to get to from the ferry port. The Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland are also stunning, as is North Wales.
You can use the campsite search to find sites with everything you need but I'm sure you'll get plenty of specific suggestions on here too.
Happy hunting!

My favourite places in England and Wales:
Pembrokeshire
Snowdonia although a lot more likely to be raining than Pembrokeshire.
North Devon / West Somerset
South Devon - South Hams
West Cornwall
Gloucestershire - Cotswolds

The Lake District is the place that would be good for water activities, but you would need to be prepared for the fact that the weather could be bad. We have been to there several times, have always been lucky to have had good weather. It is a beautiful part of the country.
When you only have a week you are limited to how far you can travel, it is quite a trek to the South of England. It dosent matter whether you use the ferry from the North or South of Ireland, when you check out the mileage you will notice that there is not a lot of difference. A lot of people think that it is shorter if you use the South of Ireland crossings.
My own personal choice would be somewhere in the middle eg Staffordshire. There are a lot of things to do in that area, Alton Towers for one if you are into that kind of thing.
thanks for all the suggestions, I think I will travel to Rosslare and get the Fishguard sailing., then head to three cliffs bay in Gower for a few days it looks stunning.
Then maybe head to north devon, or somerset for five days before heading home. I would love to visit bath for a day it looks stunning. Any suggestions for a good campsite in the area. I have so far looked at Little meadow and Batcombe Vale.
I had originally thought of Dorset coast but maybe a bit too far to go for the journey home again. I will however extend the holiday to nine days to allow for travelling.
I always bypass England and wales on my way to France so Due to lack of funds I have decided to give the UK a go this, after a bit of research I cant believe some of the amazing scenery and days out there is. Now lets pray for some nice weather. I am actually really looking forward to it now
If you only have 9 days I wouldn't try to travel too far. Anglesey has all you need, often has much better weather than the mainland, great beaches, watersports and plenty to do. You could also visit Snowdonia of course.
as your holiday, where are you sailing into? holyhead or liverpool/birkenhead? hopefully the later as you are still not allowed to travel more than 5 miles in wales
