Some months ago i posted on here in regards to a trip we were planning. We are coming from Australia (Adelaide,South Australia) and touring the UK and Ireland for 6 months. We have purchased a Motorhome and its ready and waitng for us to pick it up in Herne Bay. We have not made too many bookings as we intend to drift around your country and take it as it comes. Hopefully we will get plenty of advise from the people we meet up with in the van parks or where ever we stop.
We are expereinced caravanners here in Australia so are used to being out there enjoying the freedom of that lifestyle and figure it cannot be much different in the UK.
So on April 15 we arrive in Heathrow via Singapore and the adventure begins.
I have picked up a lot of information on this site and would like to commend who ever runs it as its a fantastic tool when planning a trip. I also use another site named "wild camping" which is very informative as well. We have joined the two big Caravan Clubs and their books and maps have proved invaluable as well.
So if you happen to see a Fiat Ducatto "Carioca" with an Aussie flag (small one) in your travels please stop and say hello.
Baldeagle
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
You may want to prebook sites for the bank holidays as the British go mad for those few days and all and sundry get camping, even those who normally never camp.
Easter is 22-25th April and then we have the following weekend too due to a royal wedding and May day so 29th April -2nd May. there is a hol at the end of August too so pre book a site for that one as it is also very busy (last bank hol of the year and the last weekend before schools return from the summer hols) and avoid travelling on the roads thoses days (be at your planned campsite the day before at least) as the whole of the British motorway network turns into one long carpark/traffic jam! Other than that, enjoy!
I think the thing to remember that is very different to Austrailia is the lack of space in Britian (though there are still many remote and lovely spots of course)
How exciting Baldeagle, I hope you have a great trip and keep us posted as to where you get to. That's good advice above about the bank holiday weekends, even us Brits get caught out with those.
Also, check maps as well as satnav, some of the country roads over here are extremely narrow.
PS. Please bring the sun with you!!

You forgot Spring bank holiday week andcow, Fri 27th May to Mon 30th May, and remember schools have a week off.
------------- Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
Have a brilliant time while you are over here, and as someone else said, if you could bring the sun we will all be eternally grateful. Please keep us informed as to where you are travelling.
Ok , thanks for the advice on those public holidays. We will have a look at that and work something out. We are just not to sure on where we will be. We are spending a couple of weeks around London and have a booking in place now at Crystal Palace. From there we are sort oh heading East Sussex and working our way across to to Cornwall. Then heading towards Oxfordshire across to Wales then probably onto Ireland. After ireland we may head to Derbyshire and then up to Lancashire then sort of head towards Scotland. From Scotland may head to Northumberland then onto North Linconshire. I guess Norfolk would be next then Suffolk and Hertfordshire.
As i mentioned just drifting around taking advice from other vannies about places of interest. Hope to meet up with a lot of people as we travel and just enjoy the lifestyle.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
