As per subject text we are looking for a good site within about an hours drive from Bristol.
Ideally we are looking for a nice forest area preferably by a river..

Bath Chew Valley near Bishop Sutton is a nice place. South east of Bristol, south west of Bath on the A37/A368.
No river but close to a huge reservoir called Chew Valley Lake.
A bit further afield is Minnows Caravan Clb site at Sampford Peverell, nr Tiverton. Handy for the M5 at junction 27 with the Grand Western Canal right on your doorstep.
What about Christchurch in the forest of dean, only 45 mins from us here in sunny Bristol.
Or
Greenacres which is near glastonbury, only 45 mins away in other direction. It is in the cool camping guide.
