Have been mourning the loss of off peak empty campsites when my elder son starts school in Sept.
Was planning a cheeky last trip away the day after Aug BH crowds have gone home but just discovered school term starts Thurs of that week so going to have to go for the BH weekend...never camped on a B Hol...but guess have to get used to it sadly!
Need to be somewhere up north & don't want to end up on a site which just let's more & more people in so that by 7pm on the Fri its like a refugee camp.
Playground & walk to pub / shop is all we ask.
Looking at reviews was wondering about Studfold Farm in Niddetdale or Riverside in Cononley as both look fairly small.
Advice/suggestions gratefully received (and also coping the transition to peak time holidays!)
Thanks
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

I suggest barbed wire fencing, earplugs and heavy machine guns, that'll keep the little blighters from playing footie near your tent
Don't think we'll ever camp on a BH again - do you want our spare landmines to add to that list?

Sorry but you are going to have to join the rest of us with kids at school and get used to booking early, exorbitant prices, full sites and traffic jams.
Not to mention the daylight robbery if you have a dog.

Quite agree about 'holiday time' prices - esp in this country where you are never going to be able to rely on the weather! - Last year we camped throughout the summer on Temp Holiday sites run by the C&CC - we paid between £3.50 (Bourton on the Water - beautiful) and £10.00 (various sites) per pitch per night - (price incl 2 Adults, 2 children & dog!) - These are well worth the money and you can camp in some fantastic places providing you are prepared for using your own facilities - It is a cheaper option esp. during holiday times, you can check out these Temp Holiday Sites on the Club website, there are loads of them going on all over the country - Good Luck

When I realised the schools are still closed for a couple of days after the August BH recently, I moved my week off after the August BH to the following week, arriving at the campsite on Sunday 04 Sep, which should be emptied of critters and ankle biters by then!

We went to Beddgelert Forest site last year and had a lovely quiet week, which unfortunately ended with the bank holiday at which point it filled up with drunken northerners who sang Elvis songs and pumped up their air beds in to the early hours (no insult meant to northerners in general!)
Unfortunately this year my son was desperate to go again and the week starting with the bank holiday was the ONLY week we could get....it IS booked but I cant say im looking forward to it massively.
You have my sympathy......I found it gets worse as they get older......
Two years ago our summer holiday period was effectively reduced to 3 weeks as one week we had one son waiting A level results, the following week another waiting GCSE results followed by 6th form enrolement the following week; along with our youngest being in year 9 and so still stuck with school holiday times.
We did however grovel to the school to take youngest out after exam season as we wanted to go to Le Tour de France which is finished by the time the schools finished School said yes!!

The end is now insight as youngest enters 6th form this Sept and so only two more years ..... 2013 we shall be free..... back to hols when we want
