we shall be staying near sandown in the summer . we thought we might take bikes . i wanted to know if is worth taking them with us and if there are enough places near to cycle.

there are some fantastic cycle paths.. very nice one from sandown to newport and are loads more

there are loads of quiet roads too

we cycle loads !!!

do plan your rout as the Islands roads are full of fast drivers who are new to the place. only last month I saw a bus knock over a child who was riding behind her parents.

I would not advise going anywhere other than set paths and tracks or the sea front paths.

we have just come back from holland and that was brilliant.

When we used to live in Portsmouth my Dad and I thought it would be nice to catch the ferry over to the I-O-W with my new bike.  What a mistake - for some reason we never imagined it would be so hilly!  Half way to Carisbrook castle right in the centre Dad wonder why I was so slow, turns out I hadn't mastered the art of gear changes!!

The roads are narrow and windy as well as hilly.  The scenery is beautiful but best viewed by car/bus in my opinion!
