Aha, just seen that Hollands Wood or Roundhill don't have electric!! Setthorns does but it does not have showers!!! Argghhhh, you can see the predicament I'm in!

Bogged down with choices.
First choice was Black Knowl CC site - but it's full until November!!
Wants:direct access to forest trails from site, dog friendly, showers and loos and EHU.
Thinking Hollands Wood as second choice?? Or Roundhill.
Someone please decide for me as I have been looking all day and am thoroughly fed up!!
Hi Chelsea Girl
We're staying at Black Knowl in July (booked VERY early) and it's a great site. I'm not surprised it gets booked up quickly. Try giving the wardens a ring directly, they tend to keep a few pitches over for campers that just turn up - you never know your luck (we've done it many times before - been booked up online so called the site direct and managed to get in!). We're also staying at Bransgore (first time) but that's a bit further away from most things.
Good luck!

We've just come back from a weekend at long meadows in Brockenhurst, was a great site. they do have EHU but not many. Direct forest access, lots of cycle trails and dog friendly too.
we live on edge of New Forest try looking Holmsley Caravan and Camping Site its got bike trails from there Electric hook ups you are near beaches and rest forest. good luck know its hard choosing a good site
Sunshine camper - the only thing that put me off Longmeadows was the portacabin loos (as stated in the reviews) is this still the case??
Lewend - Yes, Holmsley is on our shortlist as looking a good contender!
Kernow Camper - thanks for the suggestion. Even checking the site availability today is less than yesterday at BlackKnowl. They just have one random night free each month now. I think I will ring the site locally and ask.
Do you think with the forestry commision sites (Holmsley, Hollands Wood, Roundhill) I could get away with NOT booking and just turning up "on spec" and booking on the day as they have vast pitches (500 per site)??

Absolutely NOT - we are seasonally pitched at Setthorns (which we love BTW) but they have been full and turning people away since before Easter. Not just during kids holidays but every weekend and quite often Thursday and Sunday nights too. Setthorns is beautiful but has no loo facilities so tends to attract less families with kids etc than the other sites do.
I really wouldn't risk it on any of the FC sites in the New Forest - well not till at least October

Thanks for that Trish, I shall book then. Was just hoping to have flexibility incase we didn't like a certain site or area. We are going Monday to Friday the 3rd week of June so outside of school hols.
Liked the look of Setthorns but can't do without loos/showers.
So it's going to have to be Roundhill, Hollands Wood or Holmsley.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
