We have some lovely countryside in Surrey but strangely, there doesn't seem to be a lot of campsites (already looked at the campsite search). Our nearest site (heading away from London), is Horsley C&CC, but I tried to book there a couple of times last Aug and they didn't have space available for our tent (also, we are not members, so it would be expensive)
Can anyone recommend countryside sites in Surrey as I want to find somewhere nearer than sussex/kent for short-notice weekend getaways.
Thanks!

Trouble is that Surrey Land Values are so high that buying land to put campsites onto simply isn't economically viable - same is true of Berkshire, large swathes of the M4 corridor etc. There is also a massive "hole" of good sites around Brighton/Lewes for th same reason.
We live in Guildford and with a couple of noteable exceptions really can't stay locally unless we book months ahead - even then the choice is usually limitied to "developed" sites like C&CC and CC - which aren't really our first choice of venues.
There are a few in the northern part of both East & west Sussex - and some over towards Gatwick side of Surrey which might be worth looking at.
Just a suggestion ....and it may not be your thing... but have you looked at Sumners Ponds?
It looks as though we may have to join either the CC or the C&CC as they do seem to have a monopoly on Surrey sites - thanks for explaining why Trish! BTW, what are your 'noteable exceptions'? What is your favourite site nearest to Guildford?
Sumners Ponds was in fact the first campsite we went to when we bought our tent last year - it is nice, and I think we will go back, but it is also a bit pricey. Other campsites we've been to since have been in E/W sussex and kent - not too far, but on a Fri night after work, you need somewhere within an hour really.

we found the same problem - if we lived in Wales or Yorkshhire or the Dales we'd literally be falling over campsites with choices for everyone.
What we've found round Sussex/Kent/Surrey is that you get the awful(to us) sites clustered down by the beaches (full of static caravans, tent pitched like sardines), eco sites in a wood, under a load of trees, or CC sites, not much else.
Its taken a long while to find just 3 or 4 sites within an hour and a half drive for what we want - big pitches around a field, field space infront the tents, good toilet facilties, possibly a cafe, not jammed in in rows of tents.
We're trying Blacklands Farm, Honeybridge Park and a little further south to Chestnut Meadow.
