Sorry, but I don't want to hear your Lady Gaga CD when i am trying to read with my cuppa, any more that I should imagine you want to hear my Wagner, or the 1812 with those fabulous cannons played full blast.
Everybody's tastes in music are different - and we have to remember this. I'm not sayign people shouldn't listen to music - what I am saying is keep it low enough so the rest of the campsite doesn't have to listen.
OK the noise from people sitting chatting and having a quiet drink will travel on a campsite - but this is different from noisy shouting etc.
If there is a noise watershed then is must be respected - people want to get some sleep. Often people chose a campsite because it has a noise watershed.

On our last trip out to a campsite we had a couple with a small dog which they kept in the awning at night in its crate, which was ok whilst it was asleep, but as soon as dawn broke, or the owls started hooting it was off yapping for hours, until its owners finally got up and were around to attend to its needs. How they slept through this racket i will never know, i have two dogs of my own, but would never allow them to be so disruptive to others, but this little Westie managed to round other dogs up to join in the dawn corus across the campsite, although the majority of owners did manage to shut their Muts up fairly quickly.
Over the years we have camped we have come across all types of people, with their different takes on enjoying themselves. i dont mind Music if its kept town to a reasonable level, but do hate it when theres just a constant ticking from a base played loud through someones MP3, or a van full of drunken adults who are out to see who can come out with the most fithy launguage and disgusting antisocial behaviour you can imagine, and have little regard to the fact that young children are around to hear all this going on.
Our young Grandson (5) has just returned from a Butlins campsite weekend break which had a stag party staying nearby, he doesnt know the meaning of the words, but has now picked up a few choice F-offs, Dirty-Bs and P-offs as part of his vocabulary from these filthy mouthed yobs, and its taking us a lot of effort to stop him using them and getting into bother at school where he thinks its big to use words like those grown ups did, GRRRR!
For anyone who likes choirs and ochestras, the Welsh music festivals see a lot of nearby campsite pitches taken up by the musicians performing at them, and we have been entertained in the past by the likes of a proffestional flutist, a Coaliery brass band, and several male voice choir members all out to practice their pieces during the evening before their big day in the competion.

Thanks for all your comments and I appreciate it is 'horses for courses' because we were staying on a family site during half term and totally accepted that it was going to be noisy with kids playing and families sitting out chatting in the evening.
To be honest, I didn't mind the radio opposite us at times and liked 'some' of the drunken neighbours loud song choices.
But the fact the radio was turned on everyday come what may, all day/everyday and even one day while they were busy putting up a gazebo, it wasn't even tuned in, so had to put up with white noise till someone noticed and tuned it in again. And then the drunken neighbours lack of consideration for the time were the issues, rather than the occasional radio playing/loud song choice.
Lol and being 'only' 41 I didn't want to think I was turning into Victor Meldrew!!!
I have to admit, we have just come back from Devon Cliffs, they were removing an older static on Thursday morning, I refused to see what the noise was till 8am, by which time they had the new one moving onto the pitch! Friday our neighbours started packing at 6am, complete with slamming of doors etc.
The daytime noise I could live with, but night was dreadful.

...Perhaps those who are happy to have/make noise should be the ones to go and camp in a field - after all, it's perfectly simple to find one - there's so many about and there are no local byelaws etc to stop them...
and then the (possible) majority who prefer the quiet won't be inflicting their unreasonable desires on others....

------------- What's the difference between a chicken?
We play our radio or mp3 player but we ALWAYS walk to the edge of our tent area and make sure it cant be heard past where we are. I have no problem with people listening to their music as long as its only them who can hear it. Even late at night I have no problem with people generally sitting around chatting in low voices as long as they are not shouting etc its not a problem.
I think it is a matter of taste, if you happen to like the music that is playing it is unlikely to bother you (unless it is really load or late at night) but if it is music you don't like then you are more likely to be bothered by it.

You wouldn't have like being near us then last weekend.
There were eight of us in four vans.
Saturday night in our awning, guitar...harmonica and tamorine and singing. At first we played quiet but had people around us singing along and clapping.
At ten oclock we thought maybe we ought to stop when in the awning shone a light and there was the warden......oh dear.....sorry we said we were just packing up.
I've had a complaint he said....oh dear we said again....sorry, yes he said a complaint.....it's not loud enough and went away.
So we carried on till eleven.
Having said that..
when there is just the two of us I choose very carefully where we go , though I don't mind a bit of quiet music I don't do rowdy.

WTH??! I don't think I would have been able to control my rage if I was woken up pre 8am by statics being moved around! What a stupid time of day to do this.
