has anyone used this before? the campsite we are going to has it but it doesnt let you see prices untill you are at the site and connect. i have an internet dongle that has a minimum top up of £ 15 so trying to workk out best option

I use campsite WiFi a lot and the price ranges from free to expensive! Could you not ring them to ask about their connection? Dongles are fine if you can get a good signal. At least with the dongle you will get a months use for £15 its unlikely chargeable WiFi will be such good value. On the otherhand if you are only onsite for a few days and a light user the WiFi might be the cheaper option.
One site we went to charged from about £3 for an hour daily up to £17 for a weeks unlimited use I now use a 3 network dongle which if bought for longer works out cheaper than the normal £15 monthly charge and the coverage seems to be more widespread than some of the others but likewise we have stayed at sites where wifi use is free
I was looking into the very same issue before I went away recently. However I decided to have a complete break from 'The outside world' so didn't pursue my searches too much further than having a look at this website
It shows the top 10 deals for Pay As You Go wireless dongles. This way you only pay for wireless as you use it under your own terms rather than being some what unfairly charged by some of the campsites.

A lot of places , hotels included , make an awful charge for wi-fi . I now only use a `3` dongle and connect mainly in my own caravan rather than in a public area . BT do a dongle that you can top up daily for £2 I think .

I am away in the van now - site charges £3 a day or £10 for the week - not too bad. Another site we use frequently has free WiFi. All depends how much you need/use it!! I like it because my hubby goes off fishing and it is another option to my book!!!

I went down the route of a mifi device, basically a wifi router like at home but no wires as it's 3g and very compact, it lets you connect up to 5 devices via wifi, it is secured by wep, wpa etc, the one I got was from T-Mobile, so far as long as I place the unit in one of the sky lights I can get full 3g no problem, the device itself was £60 and you can choose from £2 a day £7 a week or £15 a month, there is a fair usage policy, but unlike other providers T-Mobile do not cut you off if you exceed it, they just limit the speed so you can,t stream video or use Skype for example.
Is this just another example of 'rip-off Britain'?
I've just had a holiday in France - didn't need to pay for WiFi once! Free on both campsites - and even the cheap, budget hotels had free access in the room! Supermarkets had free access to WiFi ..... McDonalds had free access ..... Orleans appeared to have free public hotspots around the city (several signs spotted but didn't avail myself!).

Maybe we've just been lucky that, in the years we've looked for WiFi, we've never had to pay on a site. I guess sites that charge for everything are even starting to creep into France
We tend to steer clear of the bigger sites though with everything for kids that we don't have. The receptionist at Penboch last month was amazed that I even asked if there was a charge!
It's been the same with hotels - never had to pay in France, never had it included in UK!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
