Wondering where to go for our main summer hols this year, family of 5 in a tent, kids are aged between 6-9. We were thinking maybe Devon? Anyone recommend any really good family sites maybe with nice pool, playground and close to a good beach.....and not too expensive. We are in the North East and could travel anywhere but hoping the South may give more sunshine!
Thanks!

As a Devonian in my opinion the better beaches are in the North. Best beaches: Woolacombe, Saunton Sands, Croyde - wonderful wide, open beaches ideal for bodyboarding and fun so looking in this area would be good.
Ruda is the closest campsite I can think of next to one of the above beaches. You wouldn't even need a car, the beach at Croyde is next to the site. However, the drawback is it's a "bells & whistles site" so lively, and probably expensive - although the whole of Devon & Cornwall will be very expensive in high season.
Stowford Meadows nr Combe Martin is an alternative. Big campsite with indoor pool but privately owned and not a "haven type". Prices will be lower than Ruda but compromise will be a drive to the coast.
Thank you for those two sites chelsea girl, not had a good look yet but did a quick price check and yes Ruda would be over £200 more expensive for the 10 nights I would book.......less driving would be a bonus though!!

Well I can think of a site, not near a beach, nor with a pool. However it has its own small lake where kids go fishing, canoeing and swimming, then theres the forest where they all go playing. Once the kids got to know other kids and it is really kid friendly, we never saw them apart from meals. Really is a great site for families, Its in Mid Wales and its called fforest fields. You would have a brilliant time

Have a look at twelve oaks farm, it's near Newton abbot in Devon. Pleasant site with a heated outdoor pool. It's only a 15 minute drive to teignmouth beach which also has a huge play park with water sprinklers. My kids love it!

Cofton near Dawlish.
Concur with Cofton, a nice site with a pool and a pub on site, and close to a nice beach.
