this will be our first visit to south hams and im looking for a campsite near the beach , does any one have any recommendations please .

Just came back from a glorious few days last week at Bolberry House Farm. Left the car on site and walked to three different beaches!!

(To be fair the nearest beach is a good half hour walk - but just a five minute drive). On two evenings I stayed on the nearest beach till gone 6pm eating fish and chips from the local cafe that did takeaway - so didn't even need to cook after the walk back up to the campsite.

Best walk was from the site cross-country through wheat fields, country lanes and woodland and ending up an hour and a half later at the 'Winking Prawn' beach cafe at Salcombe North Sands for a buffet breakfast overlooking the Salcombe Estuary. Spent the day on the beach and then caught the bus back to the campsite.

Higher Rew, Malborough, Nr Salcombe looks very nice wonderful views.

Have a look at their website. Never stayed there yet but is on the list.
