So £6 in 2006...and now £11 in 2013,for according to their website,"Two adults and all children"..that's a fiver increase,in 7(ish) years...
..that's less than 75p a year increase...it's scandalous!
Joking aside though,in some cases we've found that prices of some basic(farmer's field)CLs,have crept up to within only a few quid of a site with facilities...Although we did come across a nice little CL in Cheddar last summer, directly across from the "main" site and only £7!
So they are still out there...
Edit:Oops! sorry Jakers..I crossed your post.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

You don't say which site you are going to, but going by the Handbook to pay that you have picked one of the premium sites at a PEAK time rate. Kingdom of Fife site is only £21-00 and kids for 1p each at the same time. Worth a look!
Quote: Originally posted by fife-bloke on 23/2/2013Was trying to book a pitch for a week on a CC site and was quoted £201 for the week in April. Is this right? Just seems a tad expensive that's all,and I'm just basing this as being expensive as last year for the same week on a non CC site I paid £95 inc awning which was fine.
If anyone knows any good sites in Scotland no further north than Pitlochry for about £120 for the week let me know (ps 2 adults 4 kids 1 dog and an awning cheers)
OOPS Sorry just noticed you are in Fife! Five Roads at Alyth might be worth a look, very clean and tidy toilets, short walk to village, small childrens play area and the Angus Glens on the doorstep and reasonably priced.

I have a CC map on my study wall with some notes on it, the map is dated 2006 and it shows Cadeside Somerset at
£6.00 inc electric - this is a small stopoff site on the way to the SW with no facilities, the price is for all year.
Looking at the same site today, it has not changed.
£11, yes now £11!
The Clubs have led the price increases - run for members???????
The site may not have changed but the costs of running it most certainly will have increased.....anything that has gone up in your own home has also increased for most businesses - hence forth why many businesses, including campsites, are finding themselves out of business :( electric increased for us as a park by 80% in one year alone...... thats not just EHU to pitches of course that's also site lighting, lighting toilet block, reception and the provision of being able to provide the electric these are things such as cabling, metres etc, water charges, waste disposal charges etc they of course there are the seen costs on top of that are the unseen costs such as business rates, council tax, and costs of fuel that going in any business ( gas/oil etc), fuel for mowers, strimmers etc, marketing/advertising/website design etc
Check out the fuel price increases from 2006 - you were paying on average 90p per litre then what are we paying now......??????
The 80% electric hike happened to a lot of businesses when they were 'caught out' being previously charged domestic rates when they should have been paying electric business rates, this didn't happen to the Clubs, they had normal business rises.
Fuel prices are just a red herring, there is no direct comparison.
No goods or services (except perhaps electric & gas)that we personally use have gone up 83% (Cadeside et al)
in the last five years and to use utility increases to justify rises of 83% in that period would be laughable but for the fact some on here seem to accept it.
We've booked to go to Crystal Palace CC site at Easter and it's costing £32.40 for a family of four. We personally like staying on CC sites and I can't usually find commercial sites of the same standard in similar locations that are much cheaper, and unless there's a big saving I'm not prepared to risk being disappointed.
We are beginning to notice that site fees are taking a larger proportion of our holiday budget, but it's the cost of the fuel to get there that's becoming more of a deciding factor on whether we can go away or not.

Depends on the site - as CL and the like are often not necessarily run through the CCC they are affliated and pay in..... likewise they have to cover the costs of cabling, installation and metering.... the 80% hike happened to us because we invested heavily in a 3 phase supply to site which meant that we switched to a commercial rate, many sites still run on the domestic meters....

Fuel is most certainly NOT a red herring at all, we were filling up our mowers, strimmers in 2006 at 90p per litre on average in our area we now pay £135.9 plus - how is that a red herring..... likewise not having mains gas we run on calor bottles for things such as the toilet/shower block doing a price comparison from what we were paying in 2006 I can assure you it is far higher around the 60% mark to purchase in 2013 - how is any of that a red herring.......
likewise we live in a house and I can assure you that our costs including gas, electric ( not water I'll grant you) are up over 80% in some cases as if you fixed on contracts in say 2004 by the time you get to todays unit price you are at a much inflated rate.......
The FACT remains that the costs of running a business have increased whether a caravan site or not and thus cos we don't get services or exemption from taxes just because we are a caravan site then there is bound to be an increase in fee.......as a site owner I'm afraid we get sick of folks thinking that to run a 'patch of grass' is in someway not costly....as I have offered in the past anyone who wishes to walk a week in our shoes is very welcome to see the reality of what it actually costs...... the CCC sites also are not exempt from the rising costs of everything, utilities, taxes, staff wages, insurance, advertising - I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture.

I can't comment on your circumstances or the massive amount of grass that you say needs to be cut - the original question was 'Have site prices gone up?', well yes they have and in some small part for the reasons that you have given.
My main thrust was the Clubs prices and as an example the Caravan Club at Cadeside which I could mow and strim in 10 minutes.
The price here has gone up 83% in 5 years and probably all the other Club sites are within that range.
NO other goods or services have gone up like site prices, the Clubs have led the increases and the private sites have followed, trying to justify it sometimes by the reasons that you give.

83% increase in 5 years - only in the UK.
Not trying to justify anything at all it is a FACT and whats more can be proved as such, it is NOT just site prices that have risen steeply one example is Calor gas prices as follows:
47kg gas price 2006 price = £26 to, 2011 price = £56.50. Five years 117% increase that more than doubled!!!!!! Well over your 83% in 5 years isn't it?????? Our showers run on Calor Gas 47kg bottles but maybe this is just another red herring - one we are of course paying for as surprisingly Calor won't give us the gas for nowt!!! Is of course just one example.......
Glad the park you are on/run/help on can be cut in 10 mins, as ours and many many other parks carn't be - customers tend to like close mown grass - cutting twice a week in peak growning time it takes us on average just to cut approx 4 hours not including strimming......
Maybe you could enlighten us as to how much your 'outfit' ( car & caravan) cost to buy in 2006 new and what it would cost at todays prices, are you trying to tell me that they cost the same or similar???
I used to think that £15 pn was very expensive for a CL/CS but it seems to be quite the norm now, a few are cheaper but it seems not that many, you just have to put up or shut up I suppose. Luckily we can afford this; we are retired and go away a lot. We don't do meets or THS because we need ehu.
What did annoy me was when I found out that a certain CS in Staffordshire (2 reviews from me) put their price up by nearly 100% in a year.

They have increased in costs BUT NOT BY 83% or nowhere near.

a park can set their prices without having to justify costs to anybody but themselves. if people don't want to pay then they will lose out, if they are happy to pay, then there is more money to reinvest in other things... or dare i say keep as profit. after all it is a business.
btw - we have kept our prices the same as last year. it just annoys me that other park owners feel they have to explain their actions and share financial information.
rant over...phew. it must be opening day madness!!

I assume this is aimed at me?
I share the information as we have many many people who continually question the cost of that 'patch of grass' that we run... it is afterall a discussion forum and I would hope gives those genuinely interested 'the other side' so to speak. Hopefully 'some' will seek to understand what actual costs are involved and subsquently have their opinons changed as to the 'site owners are all robbing b**tards' which is simply not the case.
If we are in the UK we always go on private sites, they are able to adapt better to current trends and the pricing structure suits us (2 adults+dog+van, non school holidays).
The Clubs are not your friends, the sooner we get the ACSI type operation or Camping Cheque system more widespread in the UK the better.
I would suggest that our 'make up' is in quiet a majority, the Europeans have known this for years, hence the ACSI takeup.
Why should we have to spend £15 per night in June on a CL in a field, when we could (and will) be in France on an all singing and dancing site for less.
Jakers - it isn't aimed at you, that makes it sound like i'm having a go at you which i am not. if you want to share your financial information that is entirely up to you. i just don't think it is anyone else's business what you or any other parks pay really.
Good luck for your season too.
