Ring the sites folk, the CCC web page says two nights only but I rang the site at Luss, explaining I wanted a stop over when heading further north. They couldn't have been more helpful, I had a one night stay at a reasonable rate ( I am not a CCC member).

The Camping & Caravanning Club, or is it the Camping & Caravanning Company, are clearly discouraging tents in order to reduce their operating costs.
A caravan hard standing requires far less maintenance than a grass pitch for a tent, and far fewer caravanners book for a single night.
Think you’re right, Bernie. There seems to be many more hand-standing pitches going in, at the expense of grass ones and a couple of sites I used to go to are all EHU so you have to pay extra for something you don’t use. Fair enough, if that’s what the majority want but we’re all different and it would be nice to have grass basic pitches for those that want them.
Just been having a look at my schedule and I’ll only be staying at one C&CC site this year – Speyside. 2 nights as a member will cost £12.20 or £23.60 as a non-member. Given that membership is £41 this year, it really is not worth it. I don’t like the magazine anymore and , whilst the big sites book is useful, there is always this site.

CS sites (Certificated Sites) will allow one night and are cheaper than the main C&CC sites. You normally have to phone to book, have you tried booking one of these..?

Or email them I'm sure they would sort you out
------------- Visit Llandrindod Wells! Great scenery, walks, cycling, red kites. Ideal for exploring Mid Wales.
As far as I was concerned, when I last tried to go south, I did try some CS sites but without any luck and/or were own san. ess!!!! I know it sounds selfish but driving from Mull to Portsmouth on your tod is a long way, particularly as I'm not so familiar with roads on latter part of the journey south. So all I want is a safe site to doss down with a loo.
Most of the time, we're camping as a group of around 10/12 units and we invariably find CS sites don't work for us - NOT having a go! - just that we're usually 3/4 vans/motorhomes and rest tents - it's quite a nightmare. We know of some great CS near where we want to be but haven't been able to get all of us on them yet in ten years!! I agree, they are super value for money (and, from what I hear, very friendly).

Ficklejade given you are travelling in a large group 10/12 units I would imagine its hard to find space on most sites..? Some CS sites also have a rally field but obviously this will further limit the availability. When you do a search on C&CC website you can specify facitilites required toilets, showers, electricity etc.
McGuire, when we're off all together, we tend to ring the main Club sites direct. Most of them are used to us by now and are pretty good are being helpful. Speyside let us camp outside the gate as we have to be up early doors for that rally. Moffat usually manages to squeeze us tents in and disregard the 6m rule because we don't cook on site; those in vans and motorhomes are on proper pitches near us and they provide the hot water for flasks for our essential morning coffees! Again, we leave early as soon as gates open.
