I shouldn't be telling you this so keep it a secret.
For the past 5 years we have been going to a site 5 miles below Padstow at a village called Porthcothan.
The site is a 5 min walk from a beautiful beach or 20min walk from the well know beachs of Constintine bay.
It is a well kept quite site, a small play area for little uns, a crazy golf and a small pitch and put, as well as a croquey lawn. It also has a tea rooms serving home made scone cream teas.
I could go on about how great it is, but the best bit is, for us which is 2 adults, a teenage daughter and a very large tent, last year it cost us £12 a night.
For some reason it's not on many web sites but google Berryfields campsite and you will find it.
You won't be dissapointed unless you want flashing lights and loud music.
------------- As I've told my psychiatrist, you can't have too many tents.
use the search button, theres a campsite for everyone.....eden,my opinion? R.I.P.O.F.F. overhyped waste of time, dont bother, if you want down here in the school hols you are gonna pay!! and you will be ripped off from carparking to eating to just sitting on a beach it will cost you!!
Nice one blutone you just big up the place you stay in all year.If you go ANYWHERE in the school hols you will pay extra. There are many cheap/free/ quiet places to go in Cornwall during the peak season. if you stay at a decent site they can point you in the right direction. Try Trellisick, Polly Joke, Gwithian or in my opinion the the most beautiful place Glendurgan Gardens or try Swanpool, Heartlands, Cardiham woods, Tehidy, Mullion, Penhale Sands, the list goes on and on. You just gotta know where to look. Yes you will pay to park but the majority of places that attract tourists charge to park UK wide. I'm not saying it's fair or good just a fact of life. If you do not like it move on brother.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
yes i do mat,its disgusting the way this council sees visitors as cash cows, and i dont stay here,i live and work here, and i listen to people that say these things,i also agree that its the most beautiful place in the uk...we still love it But it should be said that people visiting are being hit hard by this moneygrabbing which is in your face once april arrives, hey ho,at least we are now only behind wales eh?
I agree the car parks are a total rip off down here in the South West in holidays, but I also agree that you can find a quiet place in Cornwall if you look hard enough - as mentioned Gwithian is fantastic and plenty of room for everyone, even on a busy day.
Avoid the tourist hot spots of Newquay & St Ives if you don't want crowds. We've stayed all over Cornwall and found some great cheap sites even in high season (£15.00 a night) If you want beach front with clubs/pool etc you will pay through the nose but if you can make do with a car journey to the beach & basic facilities you can get a decent site for a decent price.
I love Cornwall in a big way.
Have been visiting every year for more than 20yrs and I never tire of it.
My Grandparents lived in Falmouth for 10yrs so that area has special connections for me. Glendurgan and Trebah Gardens are lovely.
We have stayed all over Cornwall and there are sites to suit all. Personally I prefer the small basic sites with just showers and loo's.
The prices will always depend on what facilities you want and walking distance to beach will cost more.
We visited The Eden Project last year for the first time and thought it was fantastic. I didn't feel ripped off at all. A big day out attraction does cost a lot but with The Eden Project you can register and use your ticket as many times as you want in a year. Also as it is an Educational Charity the money is put back in.
We went twice in the week we were there last so as to see all of it and the food in the Cafe/Bakery was fabulous and good value. There was lots for children to see and do, I'll be taking my Granddaughter this year
I do know where your coming from blutone, with the paying top prices for everything from parking to icecream but tbh its like it all over now in the UK and especially where tourism is the main income. We just try to be careful, you can always fined a bit of free parking if you dont mind a little walk
We've always gone to Polmanter just outside St Ives. Beautiful site with lovely pool and nice bar and restuarants.
Full service pitches available which we insist on.
Only problem is that it is high up over St Ives and being on the north coast it can be very windy up there. On our last visit, had to get up at two in the morning to take the awning down. If we hadn't it would have ripped itself to shreads!
We're going to Cornwall two weeks today but we're staying at Trethem Mill at St Just in Roseland. This nestles in in valley so we should be afforded some shelter from the wind especially being on the south side of Cornwall. That's the theory anyway!

We like Hendra but doesn't really suit your criteria. I hated Eden project, granted we went 2nd week of whit so very quiet but it was very disjointed lots of areas unmanned, I'm sure it's exciting in school hols but we paid same price as in school hols and got nothing! It seemed too big an area to be managed effectively.

Such a shame you feel you 'got nothing' from your visit
Our visit was at the end of November (not in school holidays) but there was loads of stuff for kids.
Storey telling, which was a guy with a guitar telling folk tales, entertaining even for us
There was an area where kids could make xmas decs (supervised) whilst parents had a coffe and watched, an Ice skating rink, Santa's reindeers. Also the amount of educational info was amazing, from food crops to recycling.
We came away feeling like we had been around the world via plants
I do admit to being a bit of a plant geek (studied/work in horticulture) so it helps that it is my thing but my OH is so not a gardener and he loved it, especially for the educational value.
I guess its not every ones cuppa, such a shame that you didn't enjoy it tho Fiona, as it is a lot of money.
Tollgate farm at perrenporth. Fantastic site within walking distance of miles and miles of beach. Super friendly owners. Clean plentiful amenities. We stayed last year and are booked again for this August. Site didn't feel busy at all considering the time of year. We have paid about £250 for the week with ehu for 2 adults & 2 kids. Highly recommend it.

Actually I think I must have got out of bed the wrong side yesterday, as I did enjoy the biomes it was just a shame that we could see evidence of lots of things geared towards children but none of it manned or open.
