We had exactly the same thing happen to us at the weekend and weren't EHU! We arrived on the Friday with plenty of space both sides. Went to the pub and on return had a tent to the left with a very respectful space between. Saturday morning a gorgeous black transporter turns up and pitches up to the right, again with a very respectful space in-between. Weather turned a little chilly Saturday afternoon and we all went to sit in the tent. We heard voices outside but assumed thru belonged to someone on either side. We came out of tent after son had a little nap (he wasn't feeling so great) to find that we had been completely moved in on in the gap between the transporter and us! They then preceeded to call friends who came and pitched in front of them, and by the time they sat their chairs out you would have thought we were one big group. But what really got me was they let their children run in and out of our chairs and around our tent, they didn't seem to have a care in the world. Hubby looked at me and shook his head and saiddont bother it isn't worth the grief.
HOWEVER we did getvour own back at 5am the next morning when both myself and my son came down with a sickness bug and we had no choice but to pack up, they were that close thatbit must have sounded like we were in their tent, so no lay in for them. I'm hoping it may have left them thinking it might be a good idea to leave a little more space next time!
It seems that some people are so trapped in their own little bubbles that they don't give others a thought.
Normally we have our dogs and our windbreaks and I can happily say before this weekend it has never happened before. So I suggest windbreaks and even a dog or two

I think I would have gone outside and done it on their tent

The thing is that you don't want to go away for a nice break and end up in a row with someone do you. People can be so unaware of others at times.
I would feel like this too, but time has taught us that at busy times at pitch where you like sites, you do need to peg out your zone, which we tend to do with windbreaks or position of car. We aren't greedy but others are and I think that you are entitled to have a little bit of space around your unit on any pitch, for safety reasons and a patch to sit outside and eat or bbq etc.

At the time I was worried about my hubby making noise whilst dismantling Our pitch - I must be strange, as I do take other people's feelings into consideration, but the majority of my conscious didn't give a poop to their feelings as I felt so bloody ill. If they had been an inch closer I wouldn't have been able to miss their tent!

Hats off to you for managing to pack up your tent! I had a stomach bug just last week, I couldn't get out of bed without being sick!!
I fully see why you where distressed at this act. You should have complained to the site owner, he must shurly have been in contravention of his site operating conditions. I would have taken photos and sent them to the local planning / council authorities.

No, I didn't pack up :( in fact it ended up being the weekend from hell, I ended up in hospital with what they said was a very nasty case of gastroenteritis, I'm only just starting to feel human again today :)
Luckily we didn't have the dogs with us so my hubby just shoved anything anywhere!!!
We've had better pack ups

Nowhere near as bad, but we went out for the day on Tuesday (there were about 6 empty pitches between us and the next unit), came back and a VW camper had parked right next to our awning...we couldn't get the car between them...it beggars belief really...if I had the choice of the whole row, I'd have pitched in the middle...they then had some really noisy heater going until heaven knows what time!
Have to say, in your position, I think I would have had to complain, more for safety's sake than anything else, but can understand why you didn't.
