Ive not tented since i was a boy....45 years ago. Prices then reflected what was offered. Mum and dad always used simple places. FARM field, a farm loo and a standpipe for water. .. Absolute strait forward simple. ..Often, we would have cattle around the tent.
Recent years has seen us, thats me and the Mrs going away in luxury in an american rv. We still have that , but it getting boring.
...Now in our 50s, we have bought a tunnel tent to go back to basics.... Some might think we are mad, but we dont.
Do dead basic sites still exist for tenting. ?
I notice many site owners charge for example £10 for the tent then £5.00 per adult. Thats mad for a basic back to nature site.
Can anyone point us towards any web sites listing cheap simple tent sites in the uk.
Thanks folks.
It'll be great to get some hints.

The Caravan Club and Camping and Caravanning club both have lots of simple sites, known as CLs (Certificated Locations) and CSs (Certificated Sites). Some are very basic, others have facilities, but they are all relatively cheap compared to 'proper' sites. You have to be a club member to use them though.

Pick an area on Camp Site Search, click on Club CL/CS and on any of the other listed features you require.
The CLs are Caravan Club Certificated Locations which don't normally take tents, so the ones you're looking for are Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Sites, some of which are very basic - possibly just a drinking water tap, Chemical Toilet Disposal Piont and a bin, others have more facilities, but most are inexpensive. They can only take up to five caravans/motorhomes (as the CC CLs can) but also a number of tents.
They are a "members only" facility but you can usually join on arrival if you're not already a member.

This site is £12.50 a night per unit, they do have EHU but not used it so no idea how much. I have stayed here just with my son last year and a couple of weeks ago with three friends from work. Small, quiet, peaceful and cheap

Hi, what area are you? If you fill out your profile and say how far you are prepared to travel it should help generate a few more replys.
As your older and you say it's just the 2 of you, why not try new places using some of the camping vouchers in the papers (there's no shame in buying the sun or mirror for a cheap holiday, that's how some people have loads of money to spend by not paying full price) and get away out of season.
I'm reluctant to try new places incase its a let down and waste of money, but if your only paying a few quid a night it's not so much of a loss.
blue hills at trevallas,st agnes,tenner a night,open all year,even with ehu,only 13.....top site,basic,quiet,great views,right by the cliffs,or trevalor down at st just,again a basic site with good services...

Surely that's the reason why there are site reviews on here, so people have a good idea of what various sites are like and can decide whether or not they will like them. You could be missing out on some good camping on some good sites by being reluctant to try somewhere new.
