It's only about 10 miles west of Newcastle. Not Northumberland though. Northumbria maybe?

It's in Durham, didn't realise it was that close, may be the OP's best bet, not many sites with facilities open at the moment.

It's further from Durham than it is Newcastle.
It's in County Durham. Only about 3 miles from me & I'm in Tyne & Wear.

The Durham / Newcastle, and even the Northumberland borders nearly all meet somewhere near Byreside (I think).

You can see Newcastle from Byreside too, even though you're in 'Durham', look through the trees, (Hamsterly Forest). Also, the Coast to Coast trail passes right next to the camping side of the site with the toilets and showers on the other side of trail.
