After scouring the site I have found a few possible seasonal sites in Yorkshire, Lincs and Derbyshire areas. My dilemma is that the prices for many are not much cheaper than static caravan seasonal prices and being a tight Yorkshireman I begrudge paying such ludicrous prices. Can anyone suggest any sites that may be a bit better price wise.
A family type site would be great with the usual clubhouse etc... however for a realistic price I would appreciate any suggestions of sites that at least have a recreational area for the kids but a load more basic.

To be honest I would rather not say a price, although if I am being honest I would think that a coastal site with the trimmings i.e. clubhouse and pool etc... IMO would be better priced at £1500 all in. Even then an average family has got to go quite regular to make it pay or break even compared to touring around.
I cant see the point in having a tourer on a seasonal pitch if paying around the £2000 mark when there are lots of great sites that allow statics for similar money. It sort of makes the tourer pointless doesn't it?
I prefer having my van on the drive and going where we want but the new house looks to be forcing us down the storage route and at £300 plus, we might as well offset that money on a permanent seasonal pitch. That is our justification of it anyway LOL
I think comparing a seasonal site fees to a static site fees is a bit too simple. Few other bits you are under estimating:
1. Cost - You have a touring caravan. To buy a static caravan to get 'better value' site fees is going to cost you a lot lot more overall.
2. Pitch - there are not too many differences between a good touring pitch and a static pitch. The sizes are similar as are the pitch facilties (i.e. electric, water, waste).
3. Flexibility - the point of a seasonal pitch with a tourer is so you can enjoy one year in an area, and have the flexibility to simply find another park if you fancy a change. Not so easy with a static.
4. Usage - You say that an average family has to go quite regularly to get value for money. Yes i would agree. There is no point having (or even looking for) a seasonal pitch if you are not going to use it.
As a Yorkshire man you know that you get what you pay for. If you want a nice coastal park with facilities then it will cost more than a not so nice one.
p.s. all that and we don't even have seasonal pitches on our park, but if you want a static give us a call.

I dont agree on the static thing, £7k will buy a reasonable static second hand and with fees not much higher than a seasonal touring pitch how can it be lots more expensive?
As a site owner you are obviously going to try and justify the costs. Sorry to moan here but the reality is that like many things in recent years, Caravanning is an easy money spinner for the site owners. Prices have gone silly all over, I only know of literally a couple of sites that have been honest with their prices in recent years. It seem like everyone has jumped on the bandwagon and hiked prices up.
The school holiday price hikes are an other issue and from the media attention it is getting in recent weeks, I know I cant be the only victor meldrew whinging about that issue.
It is great when you find a site that has an honest decent pricing policy, on that subject if anyone has any sites they can recommend that don't rip us all off at high season times it would be great for everyone if you put them on here I am sure.
I think I will knock the seasonal pitch off the wish list as it looks impossible for us to justify the prices even on the most basic of sites.
We have been in a simalar situation. We have enjoyed a few seasonal seasons on the east coast but the cost has just gone up and up. We idealy wanted a seasonali n Cleethorpes but just could not find one. Sites in York and Harrogate etc were out of our price range !
So we looked closer to home. At the end of last year we paid a deposit for a site in Church Laneham, Retford. Takes us about 45 minutes from Rotherham It is a little out of your area range, but thought I would mention it as we are paying £1000 for the season, For the caravan ,awning, visiting grandchildren ( we have a six berth ) and our dog.
There is nothing for the children as such, except a big play field, but it is right on the River Trent. Great walks, Aprox 8 miles from Retford town, 11 to Lincoln . Great pub in the village. If you would like anymore info please let me know

Another consideration if comparing a static to a tourer. Tourers keep their money very well and are easy to sell if in decent enough nick. If you buy a static most sites have a sort of tie-in where you're expected to sell back only to them (at a loss) or remove/exchange your van for a newer one once it reaches a certain age.
I have never considered a static but I have sited my caravan a couple of times and am doing so again this year. Once I get bored I move off site, tour again for a while till I fancy re-siting. More flexibility for me. And as I change my vans/camping set-ups almost as often as I change my bathroom towels (always changing layouts etc- and always get back what I paid initially) I am happy to pay in the £1600 range for the 8 months use just for that flexibility - even as a mean Scot. Of course you do have to justify it by using it, which we do.
Point taken, must be just be who thinks that sites are taking the mickey in recent years then.
I agree the flexibility and it is possible to minimise loss on a caravan if bought at the right price. I just think that sites are taking the mickey with the seasonal pitch prices thats all.
In general I think that prices are creeping up way beyond inflation like everything else in recent years to be fair.
It is making what is supposed to be a cheap way of holidaying into a very expensive hobby and has been drifting that way for years.
There is 2 camp/touring sites in the village. Both more or less the same seasonal price but the first was just for 2 people in a caravan and electric to pay for. ( However you could pay for extra pppn) Also was just for tents and tourers, allon grass. They have a website with a lot of info. Ours is 5 minutes down the road.
Lots of people use both sites for the Waddington Air show
We chose the 2nd one as we often have more than 2 people. We are actualy sited on one of the empty static caravan plots, as are other new seasonal caravans . Initially they were hoping to open a new part for seasonal but did not get the work done over the winter. ( I did have some slight concerns, but " the Natives " were friendly lol)
If you require any more info about ours just let me know, we are looking forward to it.

I spotted the other site, they both look nice and quiet just what we need. We will have a venture out and have a look at them both. My only concern is that my two kids will have limited things to do other than do the usual Kevin and Perry routine, LOL.
Last year we stayed at the end of the runway site for the airshow, we all really enjoyed that weekend. The site is a tad expensive for a non electric weekend and you have to take all your rubbish home with you but the location for the displays is fantastic and highly recommended.
We have been for the weekend and have met a few other people. Most have boats, apparently the boat club is in the village. They tell me it gets quite busy in the summer, jet ski's and water sking etc . The river really is only a stonesthrow.
We also had a "take away " from the village pub, which was nice , proper chicken and real beef burgers with salad ,coleslaw and chips ....x2 for £12 5-7pm The pub also has music weekends etc, is fishermen/biker/dog friendly, but quite small. The guy who owns Trentfield alsoowns the pub. We are looking forward to the carvery one sunday.
BTW we are paying for our electric , at the end of the season, as we are ,so to speak on a serviced plot,it is metered , but the other owners say its reasonable.
Sounds great, I think we will definitely be having a weekend on there at some point even if its not ideal for the seasonal pitch.
If my caravan fits on the new drive we are sorted, all this rides on that one thing really. On measurement it will fit albeit with a slight hangover so we need to move in and keep the fingers crossed lol.
This weekend has been a great one for the first time out, lovely weather.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
