Hi, we are going from Darlington to Ayr in Scotland was hoping to break up journey by stopping off overnight at a transit camp I suppose is what you call it, don't need any facilities just somewhere to get our heads down in caravan overnight, is there such campsites around?

Transit Camp? Probably read Motorway Services.

You can stay overnight at these places but it is very expensive and can be noisy so is not ideal.

There is a large service area about 10 miles after joining the M6 from the A66.

However to Ayr from where you live I feel could be done in about 4 hrs. so you could do it in two stages with a break.

Set off from Darlo at 9.00am and you will be in Ayr at 13.00 and in the Pub at 13.30!
