Site I fancy near Holy Island, Northumberland, charges £3.50 night under 10's and £4.50 a night older children, plus £23 night for pitch with tent/car, No EHU. That's £31 a night without electric. No pool or clubhouse or anything like that.( Actually cant think or anything worse for us,)
Yes I don't have to go as some have said, but I think that's expensive. I know its a cheaper option than a hotel room ,but even so. So hav'nt been yet, still debating. Usually pay about about £24, North Yorkshire, for same.
This site has new play area so you are paying for that.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

We've actually reduced our prices for the forthcoming bank holiday I don't consider £50 (£16.66 per night) for 3 nights camping, with EHU and up to 4 people expensive..... we are hoping that this will attract people to our area and boost our currently failing local economy... not all sites are out to rip you off, but we do need to make a living/pay the mortgage like everyone else - here's to hoping I can fill our site with happy campers/caravanners - what's me chances?

i would consider that a bargain...and very good value.....although i doubt i can come stay with you as mother in law lives just down the road, so i 'm not allowed to stay in our caravan :(
I would also say that is good value, what is the name of your site and where are you located?
I agree in general with the OP, I would never stay at a site stating minimum 5 night stays, the maximum even for a bank holiday should be three as most people would only get the monday off and have to be back at work on the tuesday. I'm lucky in one way in that we usually stay for a week for bank holidays, but unlucky in that the prices are usually hiked up, but that's not just for camping. We've booked a holiday cottage for october half term at a cost of £495, the week after it's £295! I know someone will quote supply and demand to me but it's always been my view that we pay more when sites are fuller, facilities are busier and we have to queue more.
It's worth shopping around as there are some sites who don't put their prices up for the bank holiday.

I agree about some sites being a bit expensive I enquired at one site the other week the facilities were very basic no shower's portable toilets and one chemical disposal point £25 a night needless to say I didn't bother.

our trouble is location, too flippin far for too many for my liking..... but when the pitch fee is reasonable????? this is us Brynawelon Touring Park

We have stayed at Brynawelon Park previously and it is a very nice site. As you say just a pity about the location as miles from anywhere and if visiting a beach you need to get there early due to limited space.

Plenty of choice of beaches tho Ian 10 within 10 miles is not bad going.... and if all else fails head for poppit sands ( 2 miles expanse of beach and never crowded even with the 15 or so dogs (not all ours!) walked on it most wednesday afternoons )

Well I think there are still bargains to be had out there to be honest.
We go to Cornwall nearly most weekends (hubby surfs) and we can pick up a stay at decent sites within easy reach of the sea (by car) from £15/£16 a night including electric. If you can compromise on on-site facilities and be prepared to drive a short distance to attractions then it helps.
Group at Sandyhills Bay, west of Dumfries, over this May Day weekend. All EHUs (tent and MHs) were £17 per pitch, all on grass, facilities are acceptable and included free showers, dishwash, laundry etc. No minimum number of nights. Static with 2 bedrooms (for the non-campers in our group) was £177 for 3 nights (I think that's £30 per bedroom per night) - less than a week is always going to be more pro rata. No grumbles about cost up here!

I've probably looked at that and dismissed it although need to look at sites in the area for back up if my booked site is as bad as the last review having 3 children and wanting electric I'm struggling to find a basic site for around £20 a night that isn't a ccc site (that's an extra £41 I'd have to pay).

Did have a look at your site and it does look great, and very reasonable, but for our two week holiday, one of our criteria, where ever we go is within a 15 minute walk of a dog friendly beach.
But would definitely consider it for a shorter break.
Someone made a good point about EHU and is correct, the demand amongst tent users has escalated beyond belief. Even maybe 5-6 years ago it was virtually unheard of to hear tent campers using EHU and now it has become prolific, these boards are littered with posts about electric halogen ovens , griddle plates, kettles , toasters, mains lighting, fridges and not to mention fan heaters and even oil filled radiators, it's hardly unexpected that site owners are increasing prices.
Personally I have no problem with any of this but users are going to have to expect to pay more, if this trend continues.

Perhaps meters are the way to go and then people pay for what they use. Those who just want a kettle and a heater for cold nights (like me) won't be subsidising others who bring the entire contents of their kitchens.
I do agree with the comment about prices generally, but there are still some great sites out there that are good value. We have just returned from Bridge Villa at Wallingford which is a lovely site - - clean, modern showers etc., not too big, and a short walk over the bridge to the town. For our MH, 2 adults, EHU, and our dog I paid £15 a night with our ACSI card.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
