I'm new to the wesite, please be gentle. My wife andI used to enjoy camping when we first got together, but since getting married and having kids we just stopped. Now we are in a position to be able to buy a van and turn into a small camper (for the kids) and buy a drive away awning for the 2 adults.
My question is, where is good to take kids? I obviously want them to enjoy it so we can go again. We live in Northumberland and looking at driving no more than 3-4 hours. I've had a look at the interactive map and there are so many good looking campsites that I just can't make my mind up.
Ideally I'm looking for somewhere with an electric hook up, that will accept the van and awning, near some interesting things to do, that is child friendly. I'm out of the country till August as I'm in the forces, so looking at going away in September when I am back.
I'm sorry if this gets asked lots but I really want my girls to have a good time as I will have been away for quite a while and I want to spoil them.
Many thanks.
Neil

Hi and welcome. A bit more information may be helpful. What age are the kids, what do you/they enjoy doing, what facilities or type of site do you prefer - all singing or quiet? I can think of a dozen sites we love that will be ideal for our grandson but may not suit you. Anywhere with a river/burn, a tree or 2 and space to run suits the bill for us. As a starting point Solway View is a site we love in Dumfries and Galloway. And loads of interest in that area.
Hi Neil, Ord House is quality site, and is in your area. Peaceful, play area, sandpit, indoor soft play, with a small bar and food onsite if you want. We've been a couple of times and can recommend it. I'm sure the kids will approve, ours did! Cheers, Alex
I haven't got a site suggestion but I'd recommend going to a site no more than an hour from home for a weekend first, if you can fit it in. That way if it does all go a bit wrong, or you forget something, it is not far to go back. It can be a shake down test before a longer trip.

I've just recommended Highburn House, Wooler as a super site. Reasonably priced with nothing but a couple of swings and loads of space, but the beauty is there is so much around, Alnwick Castle, the 'coast' or for rainy days an indoor swimming pool in Wooler itself. I realise it may be a bit too close but it may be worth looking at.
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking to day I should have given more info.
My girls will be 5 and almost 4 when I get back to the UK. Both are girlie girls but enjoy open spaces, running around and play areas.
Oh and good suggestion only going an hour away, I hadn't even considered that.
Thanks again.
Solway View sounds as though it would fit the bill then. Wonderful small site near Kircudbright. Cream O Galloway, Cocoa Bean Factory make geeat days out and are a very short drive away.

It certainly does. I've looked at the website, looks really nice, very resonably priced and I think the Cocoa Bean Factory will sell it as far as my girls are involved.
We love vale of Pickering, just over 2 hrs from you. Cote Gyll, near Northallerton lovely, some nice sites in Northumberland too. South Meadows at Belford, recommended.
High Grange nice just off A1 at Durham. none have bars just good clean facilities, shop, play areas and nicely kept.
We've just come back from a long weekend at Waren Park at Bamburgh with our two lads (5 and 2) and it was great. They loved it. A couple of play parks on the site and we couldn't get them out of the pool. Plus lots of other kids to knock about with with it being half term.
I would also recommend Dumfries and Galloway. Had a week at Loch Ken holiday park last August. Campsite is right on the loch side which entertains the kids and again there are a couple of play parks. As the earlier poster said, there are loads of things in and around Dumfries and Galloway to keep the kids entertained.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
