Hi guys
I'm looking for a site in north west England or South west Scotland (withing 2 hours of carlisle).
I would like somewhere with access to a river or lake with decent shower facilities and has to be child friendly.
Any ideas??
Thanks

You might like Kippford Holiday Park , Kippford (Nr Dalbeattie). It is on the Coast but there is a river nearby. Beautiful area, very friendly. We took dogs (not children but the park is child friendly. Would definitely go back!
Loch Ken Holiday park, Castle Douglas. Access directly to Loch, great fishing, and can hire canoes, pedalos etc on site. More rambunctious water sports very nearby.
Child friendly, with play equipment, and football field on site, plus in holidays Mungo runs children's activities and everyone gather at the shop.
Love it here.

Depends what you want to do at the river or loch - let us know, we may be able to be more specific. Sandyhills has a stream running by it to a huge sandy beach, it's not far east from Kippford and love it. Three Lochs is another good site, farther west. All these SW Scotland sites mentioned so far in this thread benefit from wonderful dark skies too.
Well, the recommended site(s) at Loch Ken will give you loch paddling (and Red Kites). As for river paddling, the Solway tides are like the Morecambe Bay ones (the water doesn't come in over the sand, it comes up out of the sand at your feet), so the tidal stretches of the rivers vary greatly in height - squelchy mud at low tide, enough depth for a gaff-rigged oyster smack to sail up the river to Palnackie at high tide. And I've seen canoeists going past Threave Castle (by Castle Douglas). However neither of these rivers have sites with direct access to them - just nearby (Dalbeattie or Barlochan, and Castle Douglas). So it sounds like Loch Ken to me...
