Would like to take our campervan to Edinburgh this August to go to the Festival Fringe. Caravan Club site is booked for the whole month (has been since last September) and am drawing a blank at getting a site that is either on a train route, or a decent bus route that doesn't take hours. We do have bicycles but probably wouldn't want to cycle much more than 10 miles in to town (coming back late at night could be difficult!) Does anyone have any suggestions at all, or recommendations? Be grateful for advice.

Have you tried Yellowgraig CC site, at the moment they have room for most days in August. The train from North Berwick to Edinburgh is good and frequent.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
there is a cc site just outside edinburgh,(Captains Road) and there is buses from and to there regularly, there is also a camp site at the Sun Hotel which is in newtongrange 7 miles away, there is one a preston pans (although the buses not as regular as could be), If you have a campervan there is always Portobello Beach front, nothing there about overnighters!!!

For me, Linwater is THE site for Edinburgh. You can walk (OK, its a fair way) to the main road and get a bus to the city, or you can take the van off-site and go to the Park&Ride a few miles away.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
At Festival time, everywhere's going to be busy. Mortonhall and Drum Mhor are both on bus routes, we've been to both outside Festival time when they're quiet but the EHUs show how you will be at the minimum fire safety 6m spacing at Festival time, so take a wind shield for privacy screening. Get a day ticket for the bus - unlimited travel for about £3.50 (correct change only, the site will advise the correct fare, but crazily good value).
