Sorry, can't help with campsites, but I can definitely recommend Ullswater lake for its views - breathtaking & the Brackenrigg Inn for fabulous food

The Quiet Site is nice and has its own cosy bar on site, in an old barn (wood fire, real ales etc). It's a short road walk to the Brackenrigg Inn, mentioned above. Nice walk from the site to Aira Falls. Can get very busy though and there are sites with better views, IMO.

For views and pubs try Langdale NT site, feels remote but 3 good pubs a 5 minute walk away and others further down the valley.

Or Eskdale CCC site is awesome. Near to Boot with lovely pubs.

Is it for a tent or a caravan?

Try Castlerigg Farm near Keswick, the views are beautiful and booking is not necessary for tents.

Instead of Wasdale NT there is also a little campsite at Wasdale Head pub. I haven't used it but they have recently installed showers etc.

Turner Hall Farm is also a good one, def no need to book in September but don't especially go for the site facilities. (Newfield Inn)

Another place at Baysbrown Farm as an alternative to Langdale NT. (The Wainright)

There is also a site in Buttermere.

My favourite site however
is Eskdale c & cc as above. Great showers, great walks, great pubs (3 within easy walking distance)

There is also camping at Rydal Hall in Ambleside.

I'm a bit jealous about this one as it's tents only!

Oh ty they all look great, but since everybody seems to rate eskdale so highly and they allow 1 night stays it looks like that's where I should stay, now should I join the C,CC, save £7 just on this one trip, do the 12 months sub start from the day you join or is it from the beginning of the year?

I think membership of the C&CC is about £42 per year which hardly makes it worth it for the 1 night unless you intend to use it a lot more. Membership starts from when you join and not the beginning of the year.

Eskdale is a lovely site and Boot has a couple of nice pubs with good food.

John

Well all I can say is that the first time we stayed at the site it was a private site. The next year was c & CC so we joined. That was about 6 years ago. We have stayed quite a number of times but I bet the c& cc have won.

In the mean time we have used 2 other c & cc sites for about 3 nights total so the c& cc are def up in total. You decide!!
