Please help you lovely people, we are a family of 5 needing to book somewhere, anywhere for 7 nights inAugust this year, we have a large 8 man tent, want somewhere close to beach, wanting somewhere that allows campfires, and has hookup, not interested really in fancy amenities and facilities, if it has a hookup and a toilet/shower block and relative open space/peace then we are happy......any ideas???

Have you looked at dumfries-galloway, lovely beaches, some quiet unspoilt campsites - sandyhills bay is lovely and right on the beach. Not sure if it allows campfires but ticks all your other boxes we like it for bank holidays as its normally quiet when the english sites are noisy and over run.
the campfire bit limits your choice considerably,
have you thought about an off ground firepit,
don't think most sites have any problem with those.

Solway view holidays in Dumfries and Galloway looks like it fits your bill. It was on our short list and is still on the 'to do' list. Spacious camping pitches on a farm which is in a secluded bay, allows campfires and has nature trails from the site aswell as a access to the bay.
