After speaking to fellow campers I have formed the opinion that camp site tariffs and the services that you get for what you pay, should standardised and a "Campers Charter" award be accredited to the good ones? Such things as being charged per pitch or per person , whether you should pay for showers or being charged for having a trailer - one camp site that scores very highly on this very website charges extra for children over 12 years old. What do you think - its worked for industries?

In the final analysis it doesn't really matter what they charge for. It only matters what the total is for the way your party choose to use the facilities.
Marking a site down in one area may be somewhat unfair if that issue is of no importance to a camper. For example a family of 4 may look for a per pitch price. A single camper will look for a per person price.

Has it worked in industry?
Some examples of something in a direct comparative environment?
Who is going to "rate" them for this Charter?
Unless it becomes a legal requirement I just can't see that happening but I see where you are coming from, it's a bit of a minefield when trying to look for somewhere new.

It is a nice dream but in reality there are far too many variables to standardise the pricing structure.
The cost of maintaining the pitch, the number of people using the pitch and associated facilities, the actual facilities provided including entertainment if applicable, the local authority rating charges, length of operating season and the percentage of capacity taken up during the season all affect the operating cost of the site and can vary tremendously from one site to another.

Just picking up on the 12 yr old charge - there are a few that class 12 year olds as adults, I am having to slowly get used to my boy 5'4" with size 8 adult shoes at the age of 10 paying VAT on his clothes.
Normally i would say all the water and electricity he uses at home it would be justified to pay extra, however when camping little water is passed over his head he claims the salt water cleans him hmmmmmm.
As others have mentioned it is too much of a variable and I always look at the final price not what is charged per item.
------------- It's better to ask a silly question than make a silly mistake.
Their pitch is 2m2 bigger than mine, but I'm paying the same price, I want a pro rata refund
I'm further from the water tap/waste water.shower block so I'm inconvenienced so should pay less.
S/he was in the shower longer than me, she needs a surcharge.
I'm sure no-one on here would be like that though.

2017
April - New Forest(9)
May - Dorset (9)
August - Camping Le Pin Parasol, Vendee (18)
October - East Mersea (8)
and five nights in the one man tent!
A little CL on the West Coast of Scotland has totally different overheads / rates to a massive concern in Devon. Why should they charge the same for showers (including in price or not) maybe the Devon site doesn't have room for trailers but the Scottish one does so lets them in free.
Then there is a cost, who would run this Campers Charter? who pays for the charter? I guess the campsites who in turn pass on the costs to us the camper.
pello, I agree with others, it's just not going to happen - for the time being. Campers all camp for different reasons (except for loving camping) and have different requirements (often changing throughout their camping lives) and budgets. Plus as Bernie and others say, there are other variables such as local authority charges and operating seasons to take into account.
Whilst I firmly believe that if a site says it provides certain facilities then those facilities should be available to all and clean and properly serviced but if sites want/need to charge for showers, then it's up to them.
With so many people now seeming to want almost home from home facilities, though, I can see a day when the more minimalist and possibly impoverished camper is forced out by the demands of the majority (or seeming majority) for as many mod cons as possible. Those mod cons have to be paid for by the site owner and the price they charge will reflect this. As someone pointed out on another thread, the CCC are adding more EHUs, hard-standing, not mention chalets and now glamping to their sites and the basic grass pitch - still a long way from the loos and showers - remains a muddy bog, but one we have to pay higher prices for.
Please note, I'm NOT having a go at those who want those things (and not the people who really need EHU for medical reasons) to make a great holiday for them. It's their holiday. However, it's also my break (and those of people like me), so we're down to freedom of choice.
