We are pensioners who have taken up camping again, but are on a very tight budget.
We are looking for some cheap camp sites, any where really, but mostly so we can go away on our W/A with out it costing a fortune. We are happy to go basic, toilet and shower, electric is not required, but it would be nice to have some views. Don't mind farms, in fact our last outing was on a working farm £12 a night.
Can any one help please?

Have a look on Camp Site Search for Club CL/CSs in the area you'd like to visit.
There are around 600 Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Sites with facilities and many more which are more basic, but most are inexpensive. (CLs are the Caravan Club's Certificated Locations along similar lines but not usually accommodating tents)
...or if you'd like to post your approximate location and how far you'd be prepared to travel, others may be able to offer suggestions for specific sites - Shell Island, for example has great views and can cost as little as £5.25 per person for over 60s away from weekends and school holidays.
As hacksaw bob says, if you join camping and caravanning club cost about £40 a year they have hundreds of cheap certificated sites which cost from about a tenner a night but also out of the main season you will get age concession on the club sites which brings down the price by 25% for over 60s
If you join acsi (about £10 for the book and card a year) there's 47 in the uk under £13 a night (you see the price in euros and when you click on each one it gives the dates you can use the card ) for 2 people with elec, at some quite nice sites, it's low season discount so most will kick in again in September for the card to be used

We would like to book some where in East Sussex, we had a few days at Ecclesdean Farm, which was lovely, but was hoping to camp some where near the downs. But if nothing available on the downs, then we would welcome any other suggestions. We will need to have our car next to our tent, so many of them say no cars now. I've spent three days stuck on this computer trying to find some where, I'm getting a bit depressed now.
If you're willing to go midweek, out of season, you can go to the larger Park Resorts sites for as little as £6 per night. That will include EHU and good toilet facilities as well as the leisure passes, so you can go for a dip in the pool as well.
We've used them a few times.
This retirement lark is busy.

I am a solo camper so use sites that charge per person or give solo or age concessions. I always ask if concessions are not advertised on their website and many sites will oblige. Sites charging per person may be cheap for solo campers but may work out expensive for a couple.
Two people may find it difficult these days finding sites around the £12 mark but I would suggest looking at pubs that have campsites attached because they will often just charge a pitch price regardless of numbers of people.
Some CS's, if not busy, will take non-club members in tents. They are usually restricted to 5 caravans but can usually take as many tents as they can accommodate. Again, you will have to phone the sites and ask.
One pub site I can highly recommend which charges a pitch price is The Three Magpies near Devizes in Wiltshire.
Unfortunately I have never camped in East Sussex (must give it a try) so can't help you in that area.
