I have seen the Ballater site has been virtually destroyed. Does anybody know of any other sites that have been badly damaged by the recent flooding? Can't find anything on the Caravan Club or CCC web sites.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

I'd guess the C&CC site at Keswick could have problems, I've seen pictures of that seriously under water.

I think sites like Ballater and others, are closed until Easter. They will still be up to their ears in trying to get the immediate issues sorted out before they are able to plan for the start of the season.

Hopefully over the next couple of months things will become a bit clearer.
I think its inevitable that some sites will lose bookings and much needed earnings, as they may not be ready for the start of the season.

We were at Ballater in July 2015 and are hoping to go back this summer.

I understand what you are saying, VangoMan02, and I know that a lot of sites are closed for the winter, but both clubs are urging us to book for the 2016 season without giving any indication of any problems. I would be a bit miffed if I booked a site, only to be told in March/April that I could go there because of damage.

Boroughbridge ccc site was fully under water as well as the bungalow. They probably are ok as they are used to this problem the same as York but it would be wise to call before booking.

The Maryculter site just out side Aberdeen will also be closed for a wee while having flooded twice in quick succession.

I would phone or email the C.C. or C.C.C. or any private sites you are thinking of booking to confirm if they will be open on your dates.

Most private sites that are closed till Easter etc will respond to booking enquiries off season.

With club sites it would be even easier emailing or phoning the central booking office with your enquiries rather than each individual site.

I started a thread last week with Ballater in the title, sorry OP didn't see it; they're on FB and have a website. You'll find the bad news there. Deeside (Maryculter) was flooded up to motorhome window level. As others said on that thread, these sites will need our support and understanding this year while they get back on their feet.

-------------
2022 - 6 sites, 15 nights. 2021 - 11 / 29. 2020 - 4 / 20. 2019 - 13 / 35. 2018 - 20 / 33. 2017 - 10 / 22. 2016 - 19 / 33. 2015 - 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

You're best ringing. Our friends run a site (on a hill) that wasn't flooded. But the amount of rain means it's waterlogged - they won't be able to open for Easter. She's looking at the end of April/May abd that's if we have no more rain.

Thanks, VangoMan02, I did email both the CCC and CC asking for an update on their sites. To their credit both of them telephoned me back. They are both saying that they expect the majority of their sites to open as usual, but some of the pitches may be unavailable if they have not dried out. The only site that the CC said would not open on time is Rowntree (York). I just think it would be good if the CC and CCC put some kind of update on their web sites.

Thats sounds quite promising for your trip.

Not surprised about the Rowntree site in York. We had booked there many years ago and were glad we took the canoes

If anyone goes to York on the Rowntree site or not and are interested in how high the water level can get, have a walk a little further along the riverside from the Rowntree site and you get to Rowntree Park.

In the park, quite a distance from the riverside, is an archway. On the archway is markings showing how high the water level has been up to in different years in the past history.

So did they give you an estimate on Rowntree opening?
