My family and I are seeking a campsite for the week of August 13 to 20th this year and we want to try out a new site.
Our current favourite sites have loads of space so we never end up with our neighbours being too close - very important as our little people are very sensitive sleepers. Also what is nice about camping is being able to relax in silence.
So I am seeking any recommendations of campsites that have plenty of space even in peak season. Ideally looking in the South West area - the nearer to the coast the better. We tend to go to sites with large overflow fields that have no marked pitches. We don't need electric hookup.
Thanks in advance
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Try MEADOW LAKES. We've been several times, not too crowded, as long as you haven't got a corner pitch, plenty of space for the children to run around, 2 small on site parks, outdoor heated swimming pool, clean shower blocks, a small shop with all the essentials, not overly expensive either, perfect for kids pocket money, a large dog exercise field. It's roughly 5 miles away from St Austell.
I would highly recommend Higher Moor at Crantock on North Cornwall coast. Small, quiet and level site run by a retired couple. Huge pitches; so big we only need to book one pitch for two families with large tents.
You can walk to Crantock and Porth(Polly)Joke beaches. Crantock in particular is fabulous. No shop on the site but you can walk up the lane and use the shop, takeaway and bar at the neighbouring Treago Farm campsite (larger and more commercial). The owners grow their own veg which you can purchase.
Good washing, laundry and washing up facilities and a shed with freezer and power points for charging up your gadgets.
All good so far but here's the problem. Its so popular you will be lucky is they have any space in August but you could at least give them a ring in case they've had any cancellations.
Visitors from the previous year get first refusal for the following year so they have to do little or no advertising as people return year after year. This will be our third consecutive summer and we stayed once before a few years ago.
I just wanted to confirm to those recommending campsites to visit:
Important: When posting details of a camp site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read or left!
Thank you for the additional suggestions. I will check them all out but the Crantock site sounds like it will be too busy for my liking. I am seeking campsite with an abundance of space and hence would not likely be ever full up. I do like other people really but my idea of a relaxing camping trip is not having kids running past my tent until late into the evening:) A nice glass of wine, silence and a great view is my ideal evening once my kids have gone to bed (early evening)

Too busy! You have to be joking. A very large and spacious camping field with relatively few pitches. One thing you don't get is kids running around late. One of the quietest if not the quietest site I have ever stayed on.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
