Hi all I have just booked roundhill campsite site new forest for next weekend. And being a total newbie didn't take guy ropes in to consideration. My tent is 7mtr long and nearly 4mtr wide the size of pitch I paid for is 8mtrx5mtr . So should just be ok i think?but does that mean we can't put up a windbreak,or am I worrying for nothing?
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
If you pay for a pitch of a particular size then that is the space you have. If you go beyond that size you are encroaching on someone else pitch. It seems to me that you need a bigger pitch if one is available.
Pitch sizes are usually based on the tent size excluding guy lines. Most sites allow for a fire break of up to 6 metres between units and guy lines can be accommodated within this space.
If you are worried about it then ring the site to confirm whether 8x5 is the actual pitch size or the tent size,
Love Roundhill. Stayed there often when our boys used to come with us & still one of their favorite sites. Unless it's changed massively (which I doubt), the pitches aren't marked out, you pitch where you like. Bearing in mind that you'll need at least a meter all round for guy ropes, that's not going to leave you any room to park a car with the size of your tent. An XL pitch at 10.5m x 7.25 would have been better suited, I would have thought.
When we bought a new tent last year, we noticed a lot of the sites we use, either wouldn't accept tents over a certain size, or we had to pay extra. Ours is 4x6.5, but when booking, I always explain that's the tent footprint, so we need extra space.
As mentioned above, I'd definitely speak to the site.
It's a fantastic site, and the New Forest is beautiful, so enjoy your stay :)
