Having just spent 6 nights at the above sight [No we are not rich we had a bit of a deal] and having not been back there for about 5 years we couldnt help but notice that most people cant read speed signs on the site 5mph including towing caravans motor homes cars etc and with children as young as three riding bikes on the site roads with blind bends surely its only a matter of time before something bad happens i know parents should keep control of their children but that does not always happen

Bob,
That's a good one to post ,never harms to be reminded of what can happen.
On site ,I always keep to 5 mph with hazards on.
Last site we were on ,I thought we were on Daytona speedway.
Might sound selfish but I could never enjoy myself again if I hurt a child ,or anyone for that matter.
Good post Bob ,well done.
Regards,
Greg
I always stick to 5mph and recently at verwood ccc site was doing exactly that and saw a boy about 10yrs old riding on the grass someway in front he then went on to the road coming straight at me with his head down completely oblivious of me I stopped yet he still kept on coming with his head down, I gave a blast of the car horn and he nearly feel off then as he passed me very closely he yelled at me to watch where I was going😀. And a couple of weeks ago at normans bay, kids zooming around at breakneck speeds on their bikes , I said to my wife there's going to be a accident soon and then shortly afterwards one went straight into the side of the next pitches parked car, luckily child and car weren't damaged, I think wardens should apply the same rule to bicycles as well
Difficult to say what the driver did but she was probably in shock for awhile. Didn't appear to be her fault though and children need to be warned that the rules of the road apply to campsite roads as well.

Sandy balls has really gone down hill this year. We was there in June/july. We was all poorly for 5 days after being on site for 5 days. Site dirty and grubby, and not looked after at all. We ended up getting a refund from them. This was the second year we had been there the first year was lovely which is why we returned there this year.
And yes cars drive around the site like race cars crazy and I can't believe not one has been hurt there by a car.

Haven't seen that before and yes, unsettling. I don't think any of the parties comes out well.
*campers have to be able to drive to their pitch, and the site has laid out a roadway to achieve that, complete with "give way" signs - but then, in order to provide pitch privacy, leaves the leftside view totally obscured by a tall hedge?
*I'm assuming that as it's private land, the "give way" line is advisory. The driver seems to be going slowly enough but there's nothing to suggest they were actually going to stop, which I'd want to do with an obscured view.
*That said, even if he/she had stopped, the child would have still hit the car. A little one well ahead of parent(s), cutting corners and unable to control the bike. Fortunately she had a helmet on, but still, lessons there for Mum and Dad. And the kid.
*Looks like it could just have been a bit of bruising hopefully. Potential damage to the car. I'm guessing who had to pay for that. Not the bank of Mum & Dad.
*Finally, I wonder how long it will be before dashcams are standard equipment. Their value is evident.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
I was involved in an accident, a child ran out in front of my car, he was being chased by some other kids that had threatened to beat him up. I was only doing about 10 mph as had just set off from some traffic lights. This was an awful experience and I wouldn`t wish it on anyone.
It makes my blood boil when people don't respect the speed limit signs on campsites. As a mum of two young children I will quite happily flag down and speak to drivers doing this. I've been sworn at a few times but who cares - nothing is more important than the safety of my children and anyone who compromises that WILL get a piece of my mind!
Incidentally OP..... we've stayed at Sandy Balls many times in a lodge and love it there. Looking at camping instead this half term - we've never camped there before, so it sounds like you really wouldn't recommend it? (Thinking of hiring a motorhome to avoid the half term rip off prices...).
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
