I was wondering if any of you folks may know of a good place for a quiet getaway over the New Year period in Scotland - ideally in the hills somewhere or near the coast? Due to the likely weather I'm thinking of a caravan or one of those glamping pods or similar (not brave enough for a tent).
The only thing though is that I'm dependent on public transport so need to be able to reach it by train or buses etc.

We used to spend every new year in a bothy. It did mean a walk in. Well, it actuallt meant a couple of walks in and I don't know if you'll find one empty these days. Have a look at the Mountain Bothy association. Train stations at Dalwhinnie and Corrour cover two of the Bothies.
Have you tried the Search tab? Click on : open all year and glamping. There are pods at Mortonhall (Edinburgh) but the capital is hardly quiet at Hogmanay and it books up quickly. You need to find a site not far from a train station as buses in rural areas may only run once a day or for work / school times only. The sites I know don't fit your need for public transport - sorry. (Braidhaugh at Crieff, or the small sites close to the shores of Loch Linnhe near Kintallan.)
Afterthought - Aberlady, near the coast, set by quiet fields, but ready access to nearby station at Drem (near Haddington) or direct bus from Edinburgh. They have some wee pods, owners live on site.
How about Invercoe? (GlenCoe). Choice of units, open all year, just off main bus route from Glasgow to Fort William. Some great walks, amongst the hill but on a sea loch. Might be popular with walkers/climbers though.
