Hi All,

first post so please be gentle.

I am after taking my family away on their first camping trip, 2 girls 7yrs and 9yrs ow and the dog. I have searched and searched for woods/forest camping in the north west or very close to, but can't find anything. But my google skills are very poor! can anyone recommend somewhere not on a open field back to basic kind of place?

Thanks in advance

Have you looked at the Caravan and Camping site at Delamere Forest? It's lovely there.

Check out the Forestry Commission's "camping in the forest" sites. I think there might be one at Kielder. If not, it's a C&CC site. More middle than north west though.

Thanks both,

I tried to get a pitch at delamere but it was booked up, as was a lot of places. decided on
Beddgelert Campsite, Snowdonia

loved it, it was perfect right in the forest next to Snowdonia.

EDIT: not sure they do dogs because it's a working farm/smallholding)

Not a forest, but on a secluded Welsh hillsidie with a forest nest door is Henbant Bach. Just outside caernarfon (sp?), so I don't know if that's too far.

A basic site with a composting loo or two and a new normal toilet and shower. Pitches are scattered over a hillside & you need to take all of your stuff in by hand (or by wheelbarrow!) it isn't for the faint hearted, but it's a bloody lovely site!

Read the reviews on here and see if it's your cup of tea, but we love it.
