Would it be possible for you to ask your members that advertise their sites to state what the ampage is at their sites. We have a caravan and can use either 10amp or 16amp but our friends who holiday with us have a tent and only an electric hot plate which wont work on a 10amp site
It just saves me having to remember to ask when i phone or email to enquire about the prices

It depends upon the wattage of the hotplate ,10A supply will be adequate for a 2500W single hotplate,10A is quite common for hookups on a lot of sites.

Must be a very big hot plate. Most sites are 10 or 16 amps.

Maybe your friends could get a small gas cooker? They’re not expensive.

I always asked to double check when I started camping in 2007, as some sites only had 6A or 8A EHU at the time.

I would only have one appliance with a heating element being on at any time, with maximum wattage of 2kW.

Tripping the site EHU was no fun and very embarrassing, and I had only done that once quite early on in my camping days by forgetting the heater was on when I turned on the kettle, DOH!

I have requested for a visual display of power consumption as part of my campervan's specification. If this is not possible, then I shall request for a master switch for kitchen appliances such as the electric cooker, kettle and small oven, so that I could put a sign next to it to remind myself to turn off the air con/heating etc. before I start cooking.

The electric 2-burn hob I have chosen for my van is specifically designed for the RV market by Thetford, and it costs a lot more than the light use catering grade one that I have. It is designed to use no more than 230V/10A at 2.3kW maximum input, with auto power switching to minimise overloading.

I would like to believe Thetford has done a thorough market research before deciding on its user design specifications and opted for 10A and not 16A!

As for the new cordless kettle I bought for the van, it is 2kW with only 1L capacity, the kind that one finds in hotel rooms in UK. 2kW or less kettles with over 1L capacity are not common nowadays!

It would indeed be very helpful if campsites could state what amperage they supply. I use EHU in a tent and most EHU cables for tents only support 10 amps anyway although you can get 16 amp ones. I generally ask when booking and in the past I have had to forego a booking because they suddenly tell me at the last minute that they can only supply 5 or 6 amps.

Although I search for campsites in UKCS, the main information comes from the campsite's own website if they have one because their tariffs are not in UKCS either.

Could it be that some campers expect both camping/caravanning and sites to be just like home where you have a much greater electric supply?

I have a 750 watt kettle, but otherwise cook using gas. Luxury compared to the times when I had a tent and a Primus stove.
