I am looking for a quite, basic campsite in Pembrokeshire that does NOT allow campfires please, I find that campfires on campsites are usually very smokey, any suitable recommendations welcome, thanks

Hello Franbee , thank you for your reply, the search allows me to find campsites which allow campfires, but I don’t like campfires, I cannot see an option to find campsites WITHOUT campfires?

The vast majority of sites don't allow campfires, so your search should be pretty straight forward

A lot of sites allow charcoal BBQ though, so it can still get quite smokey at certain times of the day.

thanks for the replies, I have found a few sites now.
I don`t usually mind BBQs so much, they can smoke to get started but generally, charcoal burns OK. It is the damp wood fires that are a problem for me! I had a few super-Smokey experiences last year, I guess I was unlucky in my choice of sites!

We were on a site where our neighbour used a chiminerea to get around the rules - it was a woodland site so obviously campfires were a no-no. They put their empty plastic drink bottles into the chiminerea, oh what a stink! We had to move inside. But that was the first time in many years.

one camp fire maybe ok but when everyone lights one for the sake of it, it can be a nightmare. i have been to a woodland site where everyone decided to light a fire bowl or pit and it literally snowed ash and our car, caravan and clothes stank of smoke for the rest of our trip which was actually on another site, the smokey site was only a stop over.

i went to the Erwlon campsite last weekend in llandovery. they were hiring out some fire bowls called 'fire genie' they used some kind of wood pellets and made no smoke but had huge flames. all good until the people put other 'fuels' on them.

the next prolem with campfires is that the people with them tend to sit by them and shout and laugh (in a drunken dissingenuous way) until the early hours.....which is a bit rubbish if you are in a nearby tent trying to sleep

It is too bad that that Some campers try to get around the rules, it can spoil it for everyone else. Fresh air for me is an integral part of `the great outdoors`, as is the peace of being in nature. But Some treat camping as an escape from the confines of having to consider their neighbours at home! Forums like this are a really good way to share experiences, so that we can find the sites that suit our own personal preferences.

I'm interested in resurrecting this thread.

Campfire smoke gets on my chest, gives me a headache and makes me feel sick. It might be an autistic thing...

We tried to find somewhere that seemed to be about fresh air rather than smoke but last night everyone had fires and I could barely breathe. When you're in a tent you can't get away from it.

I like the look and even the smell of a fire so I get the appeal but I long for sites that don't allow any at all. Not sure if at tinamartin is still around the site and able to suggest any?

I didn’t get any suggestions of specific sites in reply to my post, except club sites (as above) which club? For tents please?

The Camping and Caravanning Club takes tents. Only a few Caravan and Motorhome Club sites takes tents, so best bet is the first one.

Unless the Site Search specifically says BBQs and fires *are* allowed, the default position is that they are not. And just give the site a call to confirm, for your peace of mind.
Beware sites with pods & glamping - we’ve been finding that they have might have fire bowls when campfires aren’t allowed in the touring area.

It should be wet now for the rest of the week which will put paid to ideas of campfires! We'll be putting away a wet tent and will have to get it out at home (our garden is just about big enough!) but worth it to be able to breathe.
