Can't help with specific sites beyond CAMC club sites have a ban on 'fires' in campfire, firepit and other forms. BBQs in all forms acceptable if off the ground.
I believe CCC club sites have similar rules.
Independent sites and even CAMC CL's and CCC CS's may have different rules as they make their own, so checks need to be made with any specific site considered. I've certainly been on campsites where fires in various forms have been used!
I quite like sitting around open fires, BUT I don't want them on camp sites I'm using! I don't enjoy the smoke drifting, and I certainly don't want flying embers damaging my £1000 awning, or anything else of mine for that matter! But the fire risk to the general area from flying embers is also a major concern.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
May be a loophole, may be selective sites only, but I've just been on a CAMC 'no tents' site, saw a number of 'roof tent' set ups on Caravan/MH hardstanding pitches (whole site is HS pitches only)!
Some were very basic set ups, just the tent on the roof and a toilet tent (No on site toilets/showers, so ONLY self sufficient units accepted). A sleeping space only tent on the roof and a toilet tent is pushing the concept of 'self sufficient' to it's limits IMHO!
Other 'roof tent' set ups were the other extreme with HUGE awnings (not sure if drive away or not, never saw the vehicle move) which rather to my mind undermined the whole point of a roof tent as the overall set up/break down time expended and complexity made a conventional tent look quick, simple and cheap!
It may mean that 'tailgate tents' are acceptable on 'no tent' CAMC sites, as see little difference between 'roof top' and 'tailgate' tent in terms of practical pitch use! .... so long as you have your own Porta-Potti. Last year on same site, I saw wardens turning away some pucka campervans who had arrived on spec, presumably because they didn't have a Porta-Potti on board!
