I had a conversation with my sister-in-law today that reminded me, if I needed reminding, of why I never camp here in the UK. Her and her husband spent last weekend camping in Sussex and paid £37 a night for a tent-pitch without electricity (in late October!). That broke down as £17 for the tent and one person, £15 for the extra person, and £5 for the car.
I can`t wait to get back to France.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
On the other hand, we stayed at a lovely CL in Scotland last week. Absolutely huge pitches, with lots of space around each one as well, hardstanding, EHU, beautiful facilities, which were heated, for £17 per night for 2 adults and no charge for the cat!
Add the ferry price divided by the number of nights to get a “French pitch per night” cost. CS near us in Scotland has EHU, hardstand & facilities for £10 still.
The Sussex price is very steep though - I don’t pay £37 for a MH handstand pitch with EHU, water, drain, TV socket and free Wi-fi up here. But if people keep paying silly money, the sites will keep charging it.

and we went to a site a couple of weeks ago in york that included ehu and awning and all occupants for £14 a night! i doubt they tried to get the price down by looking around and seeing how rediculous some sites have been with their pricing

Campsite prices have been a bit weird and inflated this year as we can't get to France. The campsites are trying to survive after being closed last year and demand for advanced bookings have allowed them to charge top dollar.
I stayed at Haven Holidays, The Orchards, Holiday Park, Clacton on Sea in 2019, I arrived after all the activities had closed and was expected to leave before they reopened and was charged £30 for one person with a tent for one night on a horrible pitch with no grass.
I was disturbed by drunks walking into my tent and vomiting all over the toilet's floor during the night. This was my worst night's camping ever and I felt ripped off by the high price. Don't go there unless you intend to get and stay drunk for the period of your trip.
Tbf last week was school hol week so expensive & I’m guessing the site you mention was a self styled “cool camping” type site. There are plenty of UK sites that out of peak time charge £18-20pn incl ehu.
Unfortunately we are now restricted to 3mth summers in France so we will be doing more UK caravanning next year but not in peak time & at sites around £20pn or less.
22 GBP per night for my van and my dog with 10A EHU and facilities such as hot shower, toilet, hot water washing up etc. in early October, that included a 2 GBP single person discount, is probably the most I would pay.
May allow a bit more for busier times.
It is up to me to decide how much I would pay, and 37 GBP per night is way too expensive IMHO.

As others have said, no need to pay that much! Our last site cost £16 per night, next one will be £17, no loos or showers but we don't care about that.
The difference in prices between north and south is clearly vast. Not everyone wants to go to Scotland, but equally, not everyone wants to go to the south coast. Each to their own. We prefer France for all sorts of reasons, but pricing is probably one of them.

A CL near Chester cost us £12 per night this year, not seen any for £10 for a while. Which one was it Fiona, or is it a secret?
Thomaston Farm, opposite the C&CC site at Culzean in Ayrshire. They’ve been that price for years.
We spent a wonderfully cheap week in Scotland and returned looking very tanned. Unfortunately it was from rust and wind whip.
Once our pneumonia cleared up, we went to the Forest of Dean for an even cheaper week.
Returned home a lovely colour - the doctor called it moldy/grey.
Once the course of antibiotics had finished, we said sod it and went to France for economic 3months. Returned home a lovely colour. Everyone called it suntanned and healthy.
I toured Europe for 40 years without needing to book anywhere - staying as long or as little on a campsite as we pleased and paying when we were ready to move on. That sort of freedom is still there - but not in the UK

until the last 18 months weve not had a problem in staying in uk and moving as and when we where ready and then finding another site we liked the look of en route. i expect that things will return more near normal once the flying holiday makers take to the air again in the next 12 months or so. it may take longer tho for the campsites to bring their prices back down to what they should have been as they have been making hay for far too long now!
