We have decided to stay in the UK again this year rather than go to France and I have been looking around at sites in the lower end of Cornwall. We go out of season and although I was apprehensive last year, we had a really nice time in the upper part of Cornwall, just over the border from Devon but there was so much to see in that area that we didn’t go any further down. So, this year I would like to stay further down Cornwall to explore that area.
I have been looking at the reviews on this site but there are just so many sites that I thought I would ask if anyone on the forums has been to the bottom end of Cornwall in the last few years and could recommend any sites. We don’t have a lot of requirements as we don’t have dogs or children, it’s just the 2 of us but we do need a toilet block and electric hook up.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We visited Camping Caradon site near Looe in 2015, and I seem to remember we liked it there. I did leave a review at the time. We love the area around Looe and Polperro anyway. This is what I said at the time;
An ideal site from which to see this beautiful part of the country. Very well maintained by the very friendly owners, and just a nice size. It is well sheltered, and because of this the high winds we had during our stay caused us no problems at all. All the facilities are spotlessly clean and in very good order. The pitches are nice and level, and the grass is cut frequently. The reception/shop is well stocked with leaflets showing local attractions, and has a good selection of essentials such as milk etc. Bread and newspapers can be ordered for daily delivery. There are two small supermarkets within 1. 5 miles, and all essentials not available on site can be bought there. An excellent local bus runs from just by reception, and I would recommend this for visiting Looe and Polperro, as parking can be difficult. I would give 10/10 for everything, but the only very minor niggle was the lack of an on-site dog walk. Our little dog doesn't always want too walk far, and the road outside the site is very narrow and high-sided with no verges. I realise however that this is probably outside the site-owners' control. Camping Caradon will certainly go on our list of very favourite sites, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Thanks Colin and Mrs Bonce. That was the area we stayed in last year and it was really lovely but we want to try further down this year, maybe the Lizard Peninsula or around the St Ives area. Polmanter Camping looks ideal but is a bit pricey! Has anyone stayed there and is it worth it?

Pixie, So when you say the bottom of Cornwall you don't mean south! you actually mean West Cornwall...........
Yes, sorry, I’m not familiar with the breakdown of Cornwall into areas but I mean quite far down, at least beyond Redruth when driving down the A30.
It’s years since we were in the area, so I’m not recommending any site in particular, but we found Bodmin was a good base. Lands End was reachable, so was the north coast & the south coast, St Ives, Dartmoor NP etc, but there was also interest in the local area.

Polmanter is a great site, it is a bit pricey but its worth it, booked again for next year, 5 years on the trot now and just the 2 of us, one of the best in the area.

Maybe not everybody’s cup of tea ie big & touristy but St Ives bay holiday park at Hayle does us for west Cornwall. It’s big. Easy access to site & pitches for caravans & right on the beach if you don’t mind steep stairs. Cafe bar & indoor pool included.
I drove all the way down to the Lizard, and am not sure if I would do that again in a hurry. Perhaps I chose the wrong area and should have gone to Lands End instead.
It was more a tick the box type of trip, if you know what I mean.
I stayed at Silver Sands Holiday Park which was nice, however, there was some kind of music festival nearby during my stay in July 2018, and it was quite loud! Otherwise the campsite was very good with good facilities, big pitches, and direct access to the beach that I did not use as it was supposed to be quite steep in places.

We Normally stay around the Falmouth area and travel out for the day.
So far we have stayed at Carnon Downs (Now a Camc site) Carnon Wallace and Cosawes park, all good sites each has its own advantages with good to excellant basic facilities.
We live in Cornwall but go further west for our holidays to Tower Park at St Buryan. Peaceful site with Penzance 5 miles away, lots of local walks too.
Hi Pixie, is Polmanter worth it-yes!
Have stayed many times, for up to two weeks in August to be with family, and as you say not cheap however, it has that hard to define quality feel, good size pitches and location. The bus stops there and you can walk into town a couple of ways.
We are maybe biased as St Ives is our fave place in Cornwall, we live here and my wife is Cornish, and some find it too busy in the peak periods but the town is a great place for a wander round-we have a circuit that we have done countless times-and beaches don't come any better than Porthmeor.
If you are in the C&CC I think they do a THS at the rugby club, if driving into St Ives thats the best place to park, and there are other sites nearby like Trevalgan.
