Hi there, we have been trying to find sites where the wifi is good enough for us both to be able to work. We have used CC WiFi and it struggles usually. Ok for downloading some content but video calls etc it struggles. All we want to do is work the odd day while away so we can extend our trips and perhaps venture a little further from home. Appreciated any advice on this.
Merry Xmas, Steve

I work from home quite a bit and use Microsoft Teams for video conferencing. I have only ever found one site where the wifi was good enough for video conferencing and that was Wareham Forest. However, I have successfully tethered my laptop to my phone and used my mobile phone data to video conference on a number of occasions. If you can get a decent 4G signal on your phone at a site there should be no problem tethering as long as you have enough data.
I am supposed to be continuously contactable for my job, and have struggled to get a good 4G EE mobile phone signal on my phone to access the internet.
I got a MiFi dongle with Three so that I can have access to another network in case EE signal is no good as a WiFi hotspot.
I had considered getting a MiFi system from https://www.motorhomewifi.com/, however, I could not justify the cost of about 500 GBP for now.
When I search for campsites, I would look for sites that have WiFi access. However, I have learnt the hard way that having internet access does not guarantee good signal sufficient to have meetings via video conferencing app such as Zoom and MS Team.
I shall see if having EE and Three are sufficient for my needs next year, and to avoid hosting Zoom meetings while I am away.

When working on sites I have often found that moving my mifi box to a elevated position (flag pole or even just under the front canopy of the awning) reduces the Faraday cage effect of the caravan and gives me a good connection speed sufficient for Zoom or Teams. 4G should be fine for most users but looking at the EE website 5G coverage is getting a lot more extensive. If I use the mifi extensively I connect it to a small power block that will power it for a day or more. As the mobile phone coverage improves I think many sites will reconsider the cost of installing and running a wifi system.

The thing I have found is that 4G coverage is normally good in the nearest town but the sites are rarely that close to benefit. It’s definitely a lottery. This tricky for those times when you need to travel and get there and find it isn’t good enough can be stressful. 😊

So the recommendation would be buy SIM cards for all the networks that offer 4G in the area and see which one works best
Welcome to UKCS, Godders1970. We smiled wryly seeing this request. The only reliable place for Wi-Fi in remote Scotland is a supermarket and there may be several hours drive between them. Club sites may have Wi-Fi but it’s not consistent. Independent sites may say they have Wi-Fi but somehow you can’t log on all week. We rely on a mobile signal when we’re away but huge areas don’t have 4G, so we can’t download the BBC news app. There may be several days when you don’t have any signal at all.
But we don’t work when we’re away. There seem to be Mi-Fi solutions if you can find a satellite, but we can’t justify the cost of them.

I also check the mobile signal coverage for EE and Three on their websites when I search for sites nowadays.

I occasionally extend my weekends away as 99% of the time I WFH on a Friday so we get away on a Thursday night and I've just used the MoHo as the WFH location.
My company has given me an Alcatel MiFi device on the Vodaphone network which has always worked well. I've used it for web based meetings such as Zoom and Teams.
We also have our own Three network MiFi device which also works well. I think we pay around £15 a month for this.
Somebody has mentioned phone tethering, that would work providing your network allows it and you have a good enough data package, check with your provider.
