Please can any members of caravan clubs please answer this question...
Is it still possible to blanket book at the beginning of the season using the club app without paying any form of deposit ?
Just heard rumours of every site showing as nearly fully booked when it was these individuals who preliminary booked every week under the sun and cancelled late on what they didn't want.
Is this still the case or do you pay on booking ?
Thanks

CAMC is bringing in a deposit which they didn’t have before, because 25% of bookings are cancelled in the week prior. (Or some similar high figure). I can’t remember their refund rules.
C&CC - deposit needed, or payment in full if you book within a certain time of arrival (a month?). They don’t refund a deposit close to arrival, so I only book just before I go.
I’m sure others will have links to both websites.
Last couple of years have been nightmarish with CAMH sites I've wanted to book, up to then the system seemed to work well with minimal abuse of the no deposit, short cancellation notice period, but the huge influx of unscrupulous 'Covid Campers' seems to have wrecked the system. It was near impossible to book some sites any time in advance, but a week or so before your chosen date there were cancellation vacancies galore!
In response to this CAMH have introduced a number of changes, first being no double booking different sites for same dates! More changes are afoot with deposits and changes to cancellation terms imminent I believe.
Can't speak for CCC club as not a member, but they always took deposits and had much stricter cancellation rules, think their biggest booking problem was a very clunky rather uncoordinated booking system in general!

The new deposit systems will start around April. Deposits will be refundable up to 21 days before arrival on site. Part of the new system also includes being able to select pitch surface type. Full details in the link Monty posted. I somehow think that it won't make a lot of difference to availability this year but it should have a positive impact in 2023?
I definitely agree with the deposit system as implemented by the C&CC, which is one reason why I am not a member of the C&MHC. Block booking sites then cancelling those you don't want is immoral in my opinion as it prevents other members from getting the sites they want.
Having said that, although we are C&CC members we don't always got to their sites. Sometimes we go to their CSs, and sometimes we go to commercial sites, it just depends on what we can get at a price we can afford, where we want to go. We only book last minute anyway, and never more than a couple of weeks in advance. Often only days. We are quite happy to pay a deposit when we book, or even the whole amount if it is close to the time.
I believe CAMC's move to charge for a deposit is fair, and the 21d cancellation period is better than C&CC's 30d!
I have only ever lost the 25% deposit on one stay when I had to cancel with 30d of my stay with C&CC since I joined them in 2007. Can't remember what happened, however, very likely to be very windy weather being forecasted (I was camping under canvas at the time) or work-related.
Only booked one club site of each club for this year, paid 25% deposit for the C&CC one, and no deposit was required when I booked the CAMC site in November last year.
Hopefully, with the van, weather condition is less of an issue, and I can work from my van, which means the likelihood of not being able to make a pre-booked trip in short notice is less nowadays.

Hi
Just for information. You can't "double book different sites for the same dates" You can only book one site for any chosen date with the CAMC. Been like that for a number of years.

As far as I know though there is nothing (yet) to stop someone booking the same site for multiple different weeks even though they only plan to go one of those weeks. I also believe, although I'm not certain, that you can book multiple sites with consecutive start dates. That's only what I have heard though, and I'm not a member so I can't check whether or not that is true.
