am considering buying a campervan for my wife and I and our house cat. I can’t find any lists of site we can go with the cat, is there a list ? Are cats not allowed . Seems all pet friendly means dogs for camp sites and hotels. Is there a brochure that can help me find places, getting to consider not a good idea

Our friends have three cats and they go everywhere with them in their motorhome, and it's never been an issue.

At the C&CC site Walton on Thames, a chap used to have his caravan there long term and he had his cat with him. He used to be out during the day and the cat was quite happy roaming and returning just in time to greet its owner.
I have come across cats in large MHs that stay in the MHs as indoor cats and not allowed to roam freely around the campsites.
I have never come across cats being tethered like dogs though.

To be totally honest in the years I've been caravanning I never seen anyone with cats with them. Thats NOT to say it's not allowed, just never seen anyone with one. However a couple of years ago, we saw a couple with a very large rabbit with a lead on being took for a walk! Yes a RABBIT.
We live and learn.
Cannot for the life of me see a cat being it a problem.
One lady at a site in Scotland had a small tortoise that wondered around the site.
She had taped a ballon on a string to its shell so we could all see where it was.
We have a dog who comes with us, and recently said the final goodbye to our cat who always went to a Cattery.
A few things to plan for…. Is the cat is going to be kept inside or allowed to wander outside at will or allowed out only on a lead (like dogs on site must be) or in a large pet crate.
The cat won’t be popular if it uses the site’s flower beds as a litter tray, though of course there’s no proof it wasn’t a local neighbourhood cat. Or if it runs in front of a vehicle or bike & causes an accident or gets hurt. And (like dogs) not everyone loves a cat that comes into their caravan or tent for a snooze or to use a dog’s water dish.
Our friends’ cat went AWOL when they were away in their camper. They had to go back to work & left without it. They returned to the site next weekend with a “live trap” & got it back, much thinner.
However, I have a book written by a guy who took his cat around Europe. He’d leave a window open & the cat would come & go through the night, no problems.
I’ve also seen a cat on a harness & lead, waiting in the Arran ferry pedestrian queue, the person was carrying tent gear.
It’s hard to say a cat can ever be “under control” on site like a dog must be. Some sites ask if you have a pet, but many don’t. Some sites charge (£1-3 pn), others don’t. Just identify any risks to the cat & work out how you’ll manage them. Then relax & enjoy your camping with it. Post up some photos!
We now have a caravan, and before that had motorhomes for years. Our last cat, and now our current cat, have always come with us., that's for about the last 15 years. I've sometimes mentioned it when booking, as our cat has a harness and lead, and likes to go for a walk on her lead, and also likes to sit outside and have a mooch round the pitch. On 1 C&CC site, they reserved us a pitch at the far end in the quietest area, which was very kind of them. On one CL, they also reserved a corner pitch, so we were at the edge of the site and not in the middle. I've always found that site owners/managers are very helpful in that respect,
When our cat is outside, she's even had some people take a photo of her, as a lot of people have never seen a cat on a lead. On one CS last year, she even managed to catch a total of 5 mice in the space of a week, and that's on a lead!
Make sure you have a suitable travel box of course, and take a scratch post too. We do, and our cat has never damaged any of the furnishings, she always uses the post. Obviously be very careful when going in and out of the van, as you know, cats are like lightning, so be very careful.
Just go for it, the first time will be a bit worrying no doubt, but it's great to have your cat with you; apart from anything else, it saves a fortune on cattery fees! Our cat seems to enjoy herself when she's in the van. The first thing she does when she gets inside is have something to eat. And she often sits in the front window having a nosy at who and what is going past.
I have never seen any site advertisement that said "no cats", or "cats not allowed", so I would take that to mean that they are allowed. You can own a dog but as far as I know in law you cannot own a cat, so that may have something to do with it.
If I had a cat it would come with me, especially if it did not go outside my caravan. I can't really see anyone objecting to you having a cat inside your unit.
Although I know one person who took their cat away in their motorhome and once saw a cat on an Austrian site it is probably pretty rare to see cats in units on campsites. This might explain why you don't see mention of cats. I imagine the vast majority of sites will accept cats. Some may charge as they do with dogs. Personally the way I would approach it is to plan the sites you want to visit and when booking just ask them if there is an issue, I would be surprised if you many where it was a problem.
We had a caravan and our cat travelled everywhere with us. The bathroom window was always left open for her to go in and out. She always used her own dirt tray and never wandered far from the caravan.
