Is it a good idea for youngsters to play in rivers as many still have some pollution plus they could get into difficulties.
IMHO water and grand kids do not mix and you have to keep a beady eye on them 24/7. We would be extremely worried if something happened to our grand kids while they were in our care as they are our responsibility.
Thanks people, keep the ideas coming. As for the safety aspect - My grandchildren are older, swimmers and they have half wetsuits and float aids, plus I always supervise. We also use an old kayak. I prefer to give the children a holiday experience that is less structured so a field with river access is perfect for us.
I had to look up the West Country & it seems quite big? “…a loosely defined area of south-western England…. the historic counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset and … Wiltshire, Bristol and Gloucestershire...”
So says Wikipedia (edited shorter), not always right of course.
The UKCS search criteria include swimming pools (not what you want) or beaches. There are requests for riverside sites occasionally, albeit usually for dog swimming not people swimming. Might be worth searching the sites forum.
