Why do so many sites not bother to reply? yesterday I emailed 16 sites, so far, 7 replies. 1 is fully booked already for June, 1 no longer has a caravan site, so only 5 useful replies. One that answered apologised that she had to increase the price to £14, if only they all charged that!

Email used to be the progressive mode of communication but now, fewer and fewer people use it in favour of social media or communication apps such as WhatsApp. I am a university lecturer and have almost given up emailing my students as they rarely check their emails so don’t see my message. Instead, I use an app for education, a bit like WhatsApp, to try to make sure they get my messages. I feel your frustration Mrs Bonce, but sadly it is the way things are going.
Agree wholeheartedly!
I use email rather than phoning primarily because so many people are difficult to hear or understand on the phone.
Whether that is because of my advancing years affecting my ears or local accents is debatable but either way if they don't reply to an email then that is business lost.

I think I will be looking for alternatives, but this is for a long trip to Scotland, some areas have hardly any sites so they are free to charge £30+ per night.

Interesting! I’ve found the opposite: the independent sites we go to in quiet areas with few sites are still less than £25 up here, but they’re not busy. The CS at Culzean (Ayrshire) is still close to £10 at the last review. The pricey ones have been on the main routes which tend to be stopover sites that are full come 8pm and empty by 9am and yes, £35 last year. Try doing a zig zag rather than the main A roads? And ask - there will always be alternative suggestions…
Poor broadband or mobile signal might not help but if they have an email, they should use it. I read today that 56% of Argyll & Bute has such poor mobile signal that it can’t support EV charging.
We are using main routes Fiona, up the M1, M6, M74, A82/A9 then back down, past Aberdeen and Laurencekirk, down the motorway past Kinross, to Eyemouth, down the A1 and M1. 17 sites in 8 weeks.
I find all replies useful, at least it helps cross ones off of ones list.

It's taken lots of emails, alternatives for no replies, either email or phone, or fully booked, mistakes by me over number of nights, prices ranging from £14 to £20+, but I have done it. Off on 1st May, first stop Dunston Heath. Back 56 days later, 17 sites. Nearly all CLs.

I'm with you all the way there! I hardly use the phone at all, most of my communication is by email. If they don't answer they have lost my custom, and that's not just sites, it's everything. I never answer my phone directly unless I recognise who is calling, and my home phone blocks anonymous calls. Far too many scams and other phone-pests about. Also, with email I have a written record of the communication. I have a terrible memory and probably won't remember a phone call, and the record can be used as proof if necessary.

Thats some trip you have going on there!! almost two solid months booked through various sites. Well done you......
As for emails, ipad , MacBook, iPhone, zoom, facing book, tic - Tok, twitters, etc.etc. not forgetting the the amazon prime, Netflix, sky, bank accounts. I am really struggling with all the security numbers I have to remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder I keep forgetting to input my Ghost number into the car before I can drive her. Phew 😱
I don't like using the phone as I prefer written correspondences, and those who do not e-mail me back would lose my custom, and that applies to everything nowadays and not just campsites.

Thanks Kevin, just hope we have some decent weather...
It’s a big country with a wide variety of weather: chances are if it’s bad one place, you’ll move away from the influence of those mountains or that exposed coast & into better weather. West is often completely different from east, and north from south. We once had a wonderful fortnight way up north where our route was decided entirely by checking the sky to see where it was blue & heading in that direction. In the good ol’ days when we didn’t have to book.
I can’t remember when you’re coming up, Mrs B, but I’ve got sunburned in May on Skye & Arran. We have a hole in the ozone so turn on the UV forecast on your Met Office app.
