The Searles pitch is large & also serviced, and maybe offers a pool & bar & entertainment etc for “free”, but I’d walk away from that price. £35 pn max at the moment, pitch & EHU; or £25 on some independent sites.

I know it well Fiona, as I used to live in that part of Norfolk and have several friends there. Searles is the kind of site I wouldn't go to if they paid me. If I want entertainment, a bar, or a pool, I prefer to go away from the site for them, and there is plenty of choice in that area. I go back to the site for peace and quiet, and to sleep.
While people want that sort of site, and are prepared to pay crazy prices, sites like Searles will continue to provide them.... at a price!

£25 max here, would not go to that type of site if you paid me.
You stretching the budget Mrs. Bonce???
I recently emailed a basic site on the Cheshire/Staffordshire border (no entertainment, pool, playground, bar, restaurant etc) enquiring about price and availability. For a pitch with electricity for a caravan, awning, 2 adults and 2 dogs I was quoted £43 - £33 for the pitch with electricity and 2 adults, £4 for an awning and £3 for each dog. Oddly enough, they had availability!
I emailed back to say it was out of our price range, they replied asking how far away they were and I said we would pay a maximum of £25. Didn’t hear back from them!

Prices are going up, plus we have recently found some sites which give you an electricity allowance of so many units, go above and you pay extra. Luckily kept within limits. Our recent long trip, prices were from £14 to £25.
Recently back from a farm site that consisted of a field with water tap, cdu disposal point ehu and nothing else. Cost us £16 pn for 2 people and no extra charges. Just what we want.
I will post my report shortly.
The pricing structure on many UK campsites is just too dear for us.
We have just spent 89 days in France during which time we stayed at 11different campsites, paying an average price of €16.83 per night. At current rates that is £14.46.
At each site for 2 adults we had hot, clean showers, free wifi, unmonitored electric hookup and large pitches to put whatever awning, puptent or gazebo that you had. These were all in the price paid.
Cost these sites out in the UK,like for like, where they seem even to charge for breaking wind,at a minimum of £20, means France would have been at least £500 cheaper
My tunnel crossing (thanks to frequent traveller rate) was only £190 return. The remaining £300 went on essentials such as wine and sunscreen.
Also we had 3 months of no utility costs whilst Britain shivered and ramped up the heating.
In a nutshell, we are just too poor to caravan in the UK

We’re at Hill End campsite in the Gower at the moment. £45 for a 10 x 10m pitch. £50 with electricity. It’s such a shame as we both love this site but they have just got greedier and greedier as time has gone on. There’s a Shepherd’s hut up the hill advertised for £40 a night which is cheaper than this small patch of land. It’s gone crazy and is so sad to see as I know people that simply couldn’t afford it any more. Camping was always a cheap holiday for people and families but now the increasing greed of people is taking its toll. Caerfai Farm campsite the other day, £20 a night and it’s easily as nice as this site. More so in my opinion. This may be the last time we come here. There’s only two of us as well. Sheesh..
I’m seeing more & more MHs staying free overnight in car parks in my area, one way to save £35+ pn. Sadly a few overstay their welcome & aren’t responsible with emptying their chemical toilets, so yet another gantry goes up. Was amused recently when I went to a favourite wee coastal spot & saw 2 big MHs trapped inside the car park - they’d gone in when the gantry was open for the bin lorry, past the sign saying No Overnight Parking, and got shut in when the gantry was closed again. No one at the Council could say when someone could come & open up, so they didn’t know when they’d get out.
The adjacent council area has gone the other route: allocate big spaces, allow up to 3 overnights, supply new toilets at a hefty cost, and charge £10 or £15.
Doesn’t help caravan & tent folks though.

while us caravan folks appear not to get any help at all, there is the other side that all those motorhomes that are taking the mick and not going on proper sites (tight arses!) they leave the caravan/campsites with extra spaces, unfortunately im seeing from the motorhome groups i read on facebook that they are booking a one night stop on a saturday night blocking the caravanners the ability to stop the weekends! i do wish that owners of the sites would put a min charge of 2 nights on motorhomes which would stop this sort of thing happening to a degree
